Alien language

Maybe I'm crazy, but I want to try a story that incorporates a fair amount of an animalistic alien language. The language is said to be unpronounceable by humans. How exactly should I approach this? I have considered recording my pet cat, or just doing my best to sound as un-human as possible. Any better ideas? I'd really appreciate it!

how to read, sound effects

I love the idea of your cat "reading" those parts!

The cat would be super cute. Have you considered layering it with another sound on top, like a vacuum cleaner, something mechanical? I love how man-made sounds can sound really alien.

If you use your cat I would manipulate or alter it somehow. I think the human voice can mimic cats well enough. You could search for whale/dolphin sounds and remix those or layer them with your cat. Good luck!

Maybe use existing recorded sounds? Ambiance http://ambianceapp.com/ has a fantastic library and I could imagine one of their insect or animal sounds being good for aliens.
