Can somebody with an Irish accent help me out?

I'm going to be recording a podfic for an upcoming fest in which one of the characters speaks with a pretty thick Irish accent. It's important to the plot, so I really do need to work something out as far as getting the point of the accent across (hopefully without distracting people from listening) and so I'm calling for help ( Read more... )

Just listen to a lot of father Ted DVDs! Or there might be clips on youtube.

I would if it were so easy. I've tried learning a Scottish accent that way in a recent fic, but got some harsh crit (thankfully before it posted, thank god for honest betas) and I think I really would do better if I had the actual lines spoken to go off when I attempt to mimic them. If it weren't integral to the plot I wouldn't bother... But I do love a challenge. XD

What part of Ireland is the person from as the accents change considerably with geography?
OMG edited again because I shouldn't try to be coherent just after waking up!

Lol! I hear you. I always have trouble getting going in the morning too. The locales aren't specified in the text. It's really just a couple of older men from Ireland who've lived in England a long time... Worried they're 'going English', while the younger character is a bit lost when they speak to each other and their accents thicken. I think as long as I can make it clear the accent is Irish, it won't matter which region they're from.

Are you Irish?
