I've recorded five podfics now, and for the fifth one, Audacity is stumbling every so often, both when I'm recording and when I'm listening. It's not at the same place when listening, it's more random than that and it's not a problem with listening. It is, however a problem with recording, because when it blips, it cuts out parts of words. I can ( Read more... )

Audacity does that to me sometimes if I have other programs running while I'm trying to record. And it happens constantly on my older, slower, laptop. Have you tried killing everything except Audacity while you record to see if that helps?

Everything that I had open in a browser except for the screen I was reading the story off of. Maybe I had hidden stuff running. I'll try and check and see if I have stuff up that can be shut down.
Thanks so much, good to know it probably is Audacity and not my computer hiccuping.

I can't say anything about how to fix it, but I did want to say that you're not alone. I've noticed my copy of Audacity doing it more and more often lately, and more times in a single recording session, but with no discernible pattern. Considering I'm a co-mod here, it's actually kinda silly that I haven't asked this question myself, so thank you for doing so. I'll be very interested in following this thread and seeing what other users have to say.

For the purposes of info gathering, can I ask what kind of computer you have and so forth? I'm on a 2007 HP Pavilion laptop running Vista, I use an external mic, and I DLed & Installed my copy of Audacity in August of '07 as well. Hope this helps any one reading this who may have some ideas.

My computer is an emachine, it's a PC,not a laptop. It's four years old. I think I have a clue because I remembered my computer was running more slowly that day, it would take longer to switch programs and things. I'm going to go through and get rid of stuff I don't use and do disk cleanup and that thing where space is reshuffled (can't think of the name). I use Windows XP. I have a Logitech headset microphone.

Well, if it does it again and I can record another time, I might just wait, then.

Could it be low disk space? Adacity needs scads of memory so if it's low on real memory it'll try to save stuff to the disk and if you're low on disk space as well that could be a problem...

Aside from the load on the computer, a longer piece of work will need Audacity to use more memory and could affect things like that - if you've got something longer you could perhaps record it in shorter segments and copy-and-paste them together later in Audacity.

In any case, I'm glad it's working again for you!!
