I agree...the demon blood helped Sam feel whole after the loss of his brother. More important, it gave him a reason to keep going on his own (killing demons and eventually Lilith) whether or not Dean was there. Sam needed to act on his own, and this gave him power and strength, and with Ruby, his insecurities were assuaged. Even if she was playing him. I'm not saying exactly what I want to say, you could probably say it better than I am. What I mean in some vague way is that the blood allowed Sam to be more Sam without the issues that keep down his self-esteem. Do you know what I mean?

In a similar way, the MoC is pumping up who Dean already is. It's been reiterated many times over the years that Dean is, at heart, a killer. Now he has permission to do anything he wants to do, no inhibitions, his basic personality ramped up as high as it will go. Dean has never been introspective--he doesn't want to look inside--but if he was, he would have never picked up that blade. Or maybe he would have.

Yeah, I think I get you.

I actually don't think that Dean is a killer because he is fundamentally bloodthirsty. I think that he is desperate to make those around him at least appear to reflect what he wants them to be, and as time has gone on he has become more desperate to do so and less squeamish about the means to that end. Now he thinks he can just threaten everyone into line, and kill everyone who steps out of line ( ... )

*whispers I still haven't watched*

But I just realized something after recent picture spamming on Tumblr - TAHMOH IS PLAYING GADREEL?!? (OoO)"

ETA: Apologies for being completely random and leaving/adding no insightful comments whatsoever... I may or may not get around to watching again. (I think my sister, who was my primary SPN enabler, has given it up - partially because she can't deal with fandom, and partially because RL is busy. :3)

Ultimately Dean is like Metatron, telling himself a story of his own importance and ability and then throwing a childish but utterly destructive tantrum when reality doesn’t live up to his expectations.

Exactly! This is canon Dean and the Dean fans' heads are exploding. They are trying to attribute it to the MOC. It's not, this is who Dean has been since S1, E1.

I just want for Dean to understand what Sam went through to some extent re: the DB. Because that is what he is going through now with the MOC.

I like that Sam is still not letting Dean get away with trying to turn this around on Sam.

Killing Metatron is not Dean's goal or else he wouldn't have killed/tried to kill (not sure which yet) Gad. I think, as you said, he's finding it harder to maintain that "awesome brother" facade. I'm loving it!

Yeah, I don't know what set him on this path - I do think he could have taken a couple of different turns in those very early episodes, but it's been a long time coming.

Yes! And this is such a huge part of why he's shorting out. He's so used to Sam bending over backwards and walking on eggshells to protect everyone's illusion of Good Brother Dean that Sam saying "...wait, what?" is SHOCKING.

Killing Metatron is not Dean's goal or else he wouldn't have killed/tried to kill (not sure which yet) GadEXACTLY. That action - especially the slow, considered way he lulled everyone into thinking he was being reasonable about it before attacking (ie, he didn't lose control) doesn't come from "I HAVE to be the dictator because I'm the only option to kill Metatron," it comes from "I WANT to ( ... )
