Holy bizarro world fridge batman. that's all I have. I can't even believe it. If I had been one of those kids (lol I know but) I'd be so fucking mad at hearing that story, I AM SORRY BUT DAMN YOU ARE A PSYCHOPATH DAD.
I might still be in shock. In the past, when finales have failed me, I have just repressed the knowledge of what happens (FRIENDS, SATC, The L Word, I'm looking at you), but I've read so much discussion about this one that I'm afraid I'll always remember.
I never really watched HIMYM, but I've osmosed lots of news about it over the years, and I'm not surprised it worked out this way. Sounds unfunny for a comedy show.
I mean the mother turning out to be dead all along is a pretty opposite-of-comedy premise, and dark twists aren't good for shows that are supposed to be fluffy.
it was going to be virtually impossible to end the story without giving off the impression that The Mother was an "also-ran" to Robin, the vibe that Ted had "settled" for the Mother and that he would still on some level be pining for Robin
IF ONLY that was the problem! It does serve to underline that the problem with the finale wasn't solely Tracy's death, because if the show had ended right when Ted introduced himself to Tracy, this would have been the issue.
that kind of spurious self-deluding fake "progress" rang very true to me
Ugh, exactly. That poor child is going to get the worst lessons in the world about what she's worth as a person.
