What I found fascinating about the Publius reveal scene at the end of the episode was that at the same time that James is proving himself to be a more principled person than David (and the audience) had given him credit for, he's also showing himself to be utterly deranged, and obsessed with bringing Cyrus down to a degree that should be genuinely worrying to anyone working with him. David already has ample reason not to throw his lot in with James, but I seriously wanted him to throw the guy out of his office for this, because Cyrus will probably not kill James, but in this situation David has collateral damage written all over his face ( ... )

I'm actually not sure about deranged? I mean, his methods are rough as anything, but I think James is quite rationally perceiving himself as someone with nothing to lose by standing up to Cyrus - Cyrus might catch him and wreak horrible vengeance, but Cyrus might also get jealous and wreak horrible vengeance or just decide James knows too much and blah blah blah - and so trying to shoot the moon like this is actually the best move he can make. And on the one hand, yeah, this is a lot more dangerous to David; on the other hand, it's pretty clear that James is going to do what he's going to do, and so the best course of action for David is probably at least trying to work with James.
