Lol actually at this point I've watched up to episode 10. I think ep 3 was where I started to get interested, and episode 4 that hooked me and I've really been enjoying it since! (Though there's only been one twist that's truly surprised me so far, that I didn't wonder about. Maaaybe 2.)
What's the second show whose ending you wouldn't change? Lost? The Wire?
ETA: Given how much I'm enjoying it, I'm kind of sad now that I didn't rent out s2 DVDs along with the s1 ones.

oooooh, which one was it?

I was thinking of BtVS, but yeah, I should really amend that list to three, because the end of Lost really worked for me. (From what I know, I love the ending of The Sopranos, but I haven't gotten to that last half-season yet, so I can't say for sure.) The Wire ended on a good note, because I think of it as having been a really good episode of The Wire, but it doesn't stand out for me as a particularly strong ending.
It was the identity of the traitor in Spy in the House of Love... I did not expect it to be him. I'm pretty sure I figured out that each doll was a doll before it was revealed, I was spoiled for the Sierra & her handler plot line. Though perhaps there are more twists that surprised me, but didn't make an impact.
Aww I need to rewatch Dollhouse soon, so many on my flist seem to dismiss it and just remember the filler episodes and the mistakes made, but when you actually sit and watch the show straight through it has such an amazing arc and so many memorable episodes and characters.
I agree about it having the perfect ending. Actually I'm not sure that I would have liked if it did have a full five-year run, just because it worked so much better for me towards the end as a really focused and tightly plotted sort of a mini-series. Definitely Joss's most underrated shows IMO

blargh! Like, I know that concept-based storytelling is not to everyone's tastes, certainly not to the extent it is to mine, and I get that. But I feel like it became very popular in Whedon fandom to decide that dislike of concept-based storytelling was some objective assessment of the show's quality, and that's generally a mistake.

In fairness, the S2 arc could have filled either two short seasons or a 22-episode order all on its own, and then there's all kinds of twists and turns things could have taken in showing us how the pulse ended up happening anyway. I would probably still love it the most even if it were padded out with a lot of

There are a lot of plots that I wish the show had spend more time on in the second season (Echo becoming self-aware, even Alpha being redeemed). I just got the feeling that, if Joss didn't HAVE to wrap things up as quickly as he did, then we would have instead ended up with a lot more padding and one-off assignment episodes like Vows. Everyone blamed the network for those early episodes, but I got the impression that Joss himself was also really interested in using the show as a vehicle for exploring different characters and concepts every week, even though the arc stuff was clearly what he was best at.
Even in season 2, where Joss needed to draw a bigger audience in quickly with just 13 episodes, he still had episodes like Instincts early on, and frankly they just weren't the kind of thing that I was all that interested in...So I'm grateful for the urgency of Joss ramping everything up towards the end and making it so much about the regulars, although maybe a 22 episode second season would have been slightly more ideal *g*

I also like both pilots. And Epitaph One, of course.

shit, I forgot to put in the link. It's this one: http://tigerbeatdown.com/2009/04/20/dollhouse-joss-whedon-and-the-strange-and-difficult-path-of-feminist-dudes-some-thoughts/
Written after S1 so it's not too spoilery.
