A) General announcement that my internet at home has been down/will be down for a couple of days, and now that I am on a public connection LJ is being even more temperamental than usual, so if I miss comments or notifications IT'S NOT YOU IT'S ME.

B) I did, however, finish my write-up of S3 of The Sopranos. As always, please no spoilers!

but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for )

feminism, mental health, sexual assault, the sopranos

I think Tony's distress over the stripper's death is supposed to be extension of his compassion for innocent things - animals, small children - which starts out as a supposed sign of his underlying humanity and ends up illustrating his psychopathy. It's implicitly recalled in the end of the Ralphie arc, though I'll say no more because I can't remember whether that happens in this season or a later one.

Some very interesting thoughts on the role of women in the show's world, which is something I didn't pay much attention to when I watched the show (I've been meaning to go back and rewatch it, but Gandolfini's death has put a sort of ghoulish pall on that). I'm also not surprised to hear that Imperioli's commentary is smart and interesting. He's always come off as one of the more promising members of that cast, and I wish he'd gone on to do more - as either an actor or a writer - than he has.

Yeah, I think we're in agreement on this. Tony's impulse to protect those which he sees as innocent is contingent upon their retaining that innocence and on that innocence continuing to serve a purpose for him, and when one or both of those conditions collapses it gives him the excuse he's looking for more and more to indulge in that personalized violence.

Imperioli comes across as very bright. I was vaguely familiar with him because I think he'd been on Law & Order for a while? That's disappointing that neither role led to more exposure for him.

Oh dear, I hope your internet connection gets fixed soon. Not to mention LJ, which has been so annoyingly sporadic.
