SPN - Sacrifice

WHEW OKAY I AM CUT OFF. I'm really hoping to do a S8 writeup sometime during the summer but I just had to get so much vindication love out for this episode now so! The first part of this is about the broader season metaphor, the second part is about DA BRUDDERS, and the last part is about the angels. Split up by gifs, if you want to skip to ( Read more... )

Heh. I get the feeling that your breakdown for this season will allow things to make better sense for me when I FINALLY watch. ><" Maybe.

That said, THE ANGELS!!!!!!!!!!

That said, Dean is a Jerkface, and I hold by that. My sister has told me that beyond Destiel, she is also apparently a Calthazar shipper. :) Hee.

THE ANGELS, MY POOR BABIES, THEY'RE LIKE CYLONS BUT WITH ACTUAL REASONS FOR THEIR BULLSHIT. <33333

and lol, Dean is a bitch-ass jerk! But in a way that is exceptionally character-consistent even with his better qualities. I am sure there is much fandom-pain over this, because "MY SUPPOSED FAVORITE GOT FLAWLESS CHARACTERIZATION, CRY CRY" is a thing we do now? But I was honestly very impressed with the writing/acting/&c for Dean as much as everyone else. STILL LMFAO @ SHOW-HATERS.

I would be down with Calthazar! Whether that is Cas/Balthazar or Crowley/Balthazar, which I actually cannot tell! Either way Balthazar is a hilarious troll who makes the birds buzz and the bees sing or whatever.

Since Cas is my sister's OTC, I am pretty sure it's Cas/Balthazar (which I AM totally down with), but the thought that it may be Crowley/Balthazar is totally hilarious, but also makes me drown in my own tears because of the first SPN fanfic I ever read (forced by my sister). ;_;

YES!!! I am so fascinated by all the angels, especially when they are at their very worst, because it's sort of like... challenges are those common mythos surrounding them? :3 That said, I really want to catch up just for the angels - and to figure out my feelings regarding Naomi. :3 ( ... )

oh, GODS, Kevin D: - if ever we needed someone to prove that "at first sight of the Winchester brothers, run in the opposite direction screaming" - he's it D: and I still don't know what happened with his mom

LOL YES BUT ALSO?! I loved how the episode emphasized that there are a hell of a lot of reasons to run from the Winchesters, but a lot of what gets dumped on them, it's definitely correlation and not causation. You know? If Kevin had successfully gotten away from Moose and Squirrel, he would still have been a Prophet of the Lord, and he would still have been in an immense amount of danger. Like Cas says, it's bigger than them.

IKR?! I deleted so much "AHOITHEIJWOINJGAA LOOK AT THIS SHOW VALIDATING ALL MY INTERPRETATIONS AND OMG MY BABY LKNFNGIOWEDG."

Also I've watched and re-watched already and I'm still absorbing. IT'S SO GOOD.

I read people saying that Sam was telling Dean he couldn't have friends beside him, and I feel like I was watching a different show. Sam wasn't saying Dean couldn't have friends (when is he anything other than supportive of Cas?). He was expressing his feelings that Dean doesn't value him. That Dean is prepared to discard him for a new brother figure whenever it suits him. Whether this is fair to Dean or not, this is how Sam feels, and Dean has encouraged that feeling with some of the comments he made about Benny ( ... )

Hi there! I did chat with Gabs fairly regularly, so you might be thinking of me (I USUALLY HAVE A LOT TO SAY, haha).

He was expressing his feelings that Dean doesn't value him. That Dean is prepared to discard him for a new brother figure whenever it suits him. Whether this is fair to Dean or not, this is how Sam feels, and Dean has encouraged that feeling with some of the comments he made about Benny.

Yeah, I mean, I don't think there's any question of whether or not it's fair to believe something a person has gone out of their way to tell you over and over like that. Dean doesn't like it because it messes with his self-image, but it's completely fair.

1. It makes it harder for Sam to complain about how Dean treats him, because Dean emphasizes all the things he does for Sam that are SO WONDERFUL. Sam's complaints seem tiny by comparision. 2. It puts Sam in a situation where he has to accept Dean's interpretation of their relationship if he wants to choose not to kill himself.Very much so. I'm being a little circumspect because I ( ... )

I am as of recently caught up with S9! And one of the things I liked is Sam telling Dean that Dean saves him for selfish reasons. I'm not sure that's 100% true, but I liked it because it meant Sam wasn't buying into Dean's "I do all these wonderful things for you, be grateful" reasoning.

Yeah, I think the "you did it for you" line is true, but I think Sam is soft-pedaling it in some ways? Like, I think in his head it's "you selfishly didn't want to be alone," and I think that's a part of it, but I think Sam's also backing off of "you did it to protect your own self-image," which is also a big part of it, and the really key issue, which is "you did it because you want to control me." And I think Sam really can't afford to look that last thing in the eye just yet, and he really can't bring it up with Dean because Dean will take it as an invitation to do a few versus of Times You Didn't Do Exactly What I Wanted, You Broke My Heart Fredo, &c &c, which brings them both off the point. But engaging in coercive control is extremely selfish, so I think Sam's moving in the right direction, especially since yes, letting go of Dean's rationalization is a big hurdle he's never made it over.
