I'm so glad you liked it!!! I adore CF (I think I like it equally as much as the first book, though, rather than more), and while I mostly agree with a lot of the criticism aimed at the third book, I always get ndignant when ppl say that CF wasn't as good as THG. I remember being so nonplussed when I started CF the first time and learned they were going back into the Games, because I thought it was a cheap cop-out and the narrative would just be a repeat of THG. HOW WRONG I WAS.
Finnick! Mags! Johanna! Beetee and Wiress! The Tributes are such a wonderful mix. Random: I really want SMG to play Johanna in the movie. I would love to see her play that hardass, half-broken, victim/aggressor, maybe-bad-maybe-not character, and I know she could do it (my dream casting for Effie was Emma Caulfield, though, so I'm learning to live with disappointment).
PEETA!!! At the moment words cannot describe how much I adore Peeta. I- just- adlkjfaldkfjaldkfjalkdfjlkajfsd.

Agreed! I was really impressed (I use that word a lot talking about this series?! but rightfully so) with how such a huge event could be something so completely different in this second book. Loved it.

OMG she would be a fantastic Johanna. I think she's too old, though. :( Johanna's supposed to be mid-twenties.
You are living in my brain! I loved Catching Fire (it too is my favorite, but I'll let you let us know after the third). I think that it was a fantastic progression from the last book. The Games happen again, but everything that comes before is essential for the meaning of the events in Catching Fire, and it ratchets everything up without once making me feel manipulated. Finnick is my favorite new character ever (in these books). The fact that he's not introduced until the second book is probably part of the reason I like it more. And finally, yes! Peeta love! I'm leading a book club of sixth grade boys who hate Peeta with a fiery passion (the part they hated most in CF was when Peeta's heart was restarted and he DIDN'T DIE), and it's a joy to see someone else who is thoughtful and loved him and despite what seems on the surface like a possibly Gary Stu, he has layers and personality and a reality to him that makes his goodness something believable rather than annoying. I think I like him for some of the reasons that I like Spike- the

Awww! Do you mind if I ask why? (Why they say they hate him or if there's a reason they're not copping to, I'm kinda curious as to both.) I feel like those reasons we love him might make him less palatable to boys who are at that age of masculinity-pressures really setting in.
Interesting question. They aren't super articulate (not because they can't be, but because they prefer to bash him as a group by coming up with increasingly ridiculous possible deaths), but I do get the impression that they think he is a weakling and that he weighs Katniss down. They love Gale and even want them together romantically, and they often speak about how tough he is. They call him stupid as well, but I'm not sure if that has more to do with his intelligence or their feelings!
Awww, yeah, it's a shame, but I wouldn't be surprised if boys that age feel a bit like they have to distance themselves from Peeta and his refreshing lack of anxious masculinity. Maybe he will be a good role model for them on some level, though!
I'm glad you liked it. I just finished reading it for the second time and I really liked it too.
Also, I loved that Johanna turned out to have been part of the rebel faction all along. Yeah, she's a lethal bitch, but she's a lethal bitch who's On. Their. Side. They should start casting for the movie of CF pretty soon, and I'm really hoping they cast someone SHORT. I don't care what she looks like so long as she gets towered over by the other characters and still manages to kick their asses.
Johanna was FANTASTIC. I loved that her motivations were so painful and not at all romanticized. She really had nothing left to lose, and was filling that space with that anger.

I would love to share with you my thoughts about Catching Fire, but unfortunately I read all three books of the trilogy one after the other with only like ten minutes in between, and I haven't really recovered enough to do much more than cry and babble about OMG MY PRECIOUS BBS.
CATCHING FIRE IS THE BEST ONE!!! Ngl, it trumps THG hands down.
The point of the Games is dehumanization; of course Snow's personalized vendetta would come back to bite him in the ass. Ohhhh just wait until you read Mockingjay. JUST YOU WAIT.
He couldn't have known what he was getting with Katniss and Peeta. (Or could he?We don't know how far in advance you have to request which district you style for, and as Cinna is vocal about admiring Katniss' sacrifice, I can't imagine it being a complete coincidence, especially as it does seem he was part of the resistance and Plutarch's plans from the get go. At least that's how I interpreted it

FINNICK! So many things I love all packed into one character, I'm really enjoying seeing all the love for him. Johanna is freaking perfect too, and I loved all the interactions of that uneasy little band.
Magggsssssss. Mags' sacrifice made me cry far more than Rue's death ever did, because rather than being a tragedy and a travesty, it was the willing and ready sacrifice of someone for not just the movement and the cause, but also for people she loved. The Mentor-TributeVictor bond is one of the relationships I find most beautiful and interesting in the books, as far as any types of relationships go.Oooooh, yes, exactly. And I loved that I could completely believe that she had been Finnick's auntie for all those years, and understand that bond from her perspective as well as his? I feel like I'm describing it really ineptly, but I feel like when that kind of relationship shows up, the older woman's perspective usually gets sidelined as a prop for the MAN PAIN. But I didn't feel like that happened at all with the Mags-Finnick

Ok, DO NOT JOIN YET because ngl there are MAJOR spoilers for Mockingjay pretty much everywhere.
BOOKMARK IT AND WAIT.
Because seriously there is so so so much epic coming up with the Victors, so do not spoil yourself.
Usually I do not care about spoiling anyone for Catching Fire and Mockingjay, but as I love you and you are reading the books instead of being some dreadful movie fan, YOU MUST NOT BE SPOILED.
