(If someone has a less god-awful explanation for this I'd like to hear it, but I don't think there is: "Dad knocked up the 'maid' during the Civil War"? WOW, show. Foul ball.)

Prior to this, I had assumed that the Salvatore descendants came from another branch of the family. Like their father's brother or something. It's not a difficult leap to wank that they had cousins.

And yes, 'maid', indeed. Setting aside the whole 'maid' issue, I doubt any children of the 'maid' would get the family name or founding family perks.

Yeah, the cousins thing would've made perfect sense and not been, um, horrible?

Lots of people being strangely but amusingly introspective.

lol, my thoughts basically.

Intriguing that Rebekah knew her all those years ago, and she was into Finn, of all the vampires one could be after. (ARRRRGH, MATEYS.)

I LEGIT LOL'D AT THIS BECAUSE - WHY.

That this is still and will always be a show about cycles of abuse, how people learn bad behavior and pass it on, sometimes even thinking they really are doing something good along with the bad.

YES X1000000000. Motherfucking yes to your whole paragraph there. I mean. The misogyny of everything is blatant and conscious on the part of the writers. There is literally no other way to read all of that. The overtext of vampires = DISGUSTING SEXUAL PREDATORS was so fucking in your face, and quite slyly referenced by the dialogue, imho.

I like that it's going to have ramifications for Ric (wait, did Isobel really take out protective orders against him?)

Yes this blew my mind a little. WHAT THE HELL IS THE STORY THERE?

GIRLS CAN WEAR JEWELRY TOO OKAY.

I could hear the fzzztwhooosh of the point rushing past THOUSANDS of ears before I even got home to post last night. It'd be a little fair to worry about how far that should go on a show for teens, I guess, but whatever, kids aren't stupid, and I'm glad there's some media explicitly telling them that misogyny is violence and nastiness.

I want to frame your thoughts about the cycle of abuse. Just saying.

Tbqh, I had a totally inappropriate snort of laughter here, because the very idea is just so bizarre and absurd. Seriously, show, would a little reasach have killed you? It all sounded like the Salvatores were some sort of royalty, and the family name had to be perserved at all cost. While, intellectually, I am aware how gross this thing is, I'm having a hard time to bring myself to treat it seriously, because it's just TOO ABSURD. I keep suspecting that Damon just blurted out whatever because he wanted Rebekah to fuck off.

I am honestly amazed at how thoroughly the show documents the ways abuse and its fallout manifests.

Seriously, show, would a little reasach have killed you?

Ugh, yeah; honestly, though, they've written enough about the Civil War era that no research necessary, there's no way they didn't know exactly what story they were papering over there.

I could've jumped into the screen to hug Elena when she opened up to Matt about how, bizarre as it was, Stefan felt safe because he was already dead.

Wasn't this the best? I am in love with Elena in this scene.

How old is Sage? Because Finn was daggered for a while...I loved how Rebekah kept mentioning how she knew Sage, and they ignored her the first time. It was weirdly adorable. She just wants to be part of boys night ( ... )

It's going to be interesting! Either the Mikaelsons aren't quite as Original as they claimed to be, or Sage was one of the first ones they turned. And it's a little surprising that she was into Finn (WOE I AM A MONSTER) when she's all excited about living the unlife, you know? Though I guess it does explain why she was so drawn to sulky-Damon.

I'm so intrigued to find out what's up with Jeremy now!

Yeah, I'm guessing she was (one of) Finn's first victim(s).

I wonder if her "obsession" with him had anything to do with him being the first one daggered? Or the reason he's creepy suicidal guy? Maybe he regretted turning her and Klaus boxed him because he was too depressing.

I'm really excited to see more of Sage. Intriguing that Rebekah knew her all those years ago, and she was into Finn, of all the vampires one could be after. (ARRRRGH, MATEYS.)

LMAO. Maybe she has a thing for pirates?

Sage didn't really do much for me in this ep... she just acted as a catalyst for ~Salvatore development (which, lol, I am not complaining about MY BOYS BONDING TIME, but female characters who are not just there to further the male characters would be nice y/y?), so I kinda hope she plays a bigger role if she shows up again.

(If someone has a less god-awful explanation for this I'd like to hear it, but I don't think there is: "Dad knocked up the 'maid' during the Civil War"? WOW, show. Foul ball.)

Possibly just more evidence of Damon being vile and horrible this ep? He's pretty much taking EVERY POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY to be a jerk this ep, so... yeah. I'm thinking he's being flippant to Rebekah because flippant is his default setting she's being too nosy. At least, that's what I'm going with to save myself from ( ... )
