in which Our Heroine breaks her ban on the s-word, and rambles on a lot about bras

BWAHAHA, udder effect.

wide spread bras with push up are bad things.

OMG, yes. Because if you haven't had something that fits properly, then it lulls you into thinking "that's how it's SUPPOSED to fit! For the cleavage!" But push-ups can actually fit for real same as anything else.

under wire - it can be a bad thing in a cheap bra... there's the danger of them coming loose like circular antennae from your chest. Like your cleavage is seeking information from the stars.

PFFT, SO TRUE. Poor fit is also a renegade underwire hazard, because then it's STRAINING to support, which puts too much pressure on the stitching that holds it in.

Oh! Is that what that's about? That happens with every single bra I own. I just figured that was the natural evolution or devolution of bras. Hm. Well, there ya go.

Yeah, probably. I mean, there's always going to be manufacturing flaws once in a long while, but the fact that it's a pattern sounds like a sizing issue. BETTER FIT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

I hope it helps! The bra thing is...just finicky enough that it needs to be a little complicated. But it doesn't have to be PAINFUL, physically or mentally.

This was a good laugh and informative, too! I've been trying to get my mom to get her tatas properly sized, but the idea of some stranger staring at her tits creeps her out. This will be a perfect reference for her, and I shall tell her that it's from someone who worked at a Large US National Bra Chain Whose Fitting Advice You Should Never Actually Follow Even If You Love Their Cute Panties.

I hope it helps! I had to lure my own mother into a fitting room under FALSE PRETENSES. "Mom I just want to know what you think of this work dress and you just go on in first and, HA! WE'RE NOT LEAVING UNTIL YOU TRY ALL THESE ON NO CHEATING AND LOOKING AT THE TAGS."

Also, she might want to know that they probably shouldn't need to see her braless to size her. Because you measure with a bra on, right. They shouldn't need to see more than she would show on a day at the beach. I mean, I know it's uncomfortable for people for a lot of reasons, but it might help.

Look at me, leaving useless comments months after the discussion!

Because you measure with a bra on, right.

Does it actually work for big breasts though? I mean, I get absolutely ridonk numbers no matter how I measure, but the measure with a bra is even more ridonk.

MY GOD I just spent an hour reading this and your links. Thank you for this entire post!

Well, except for the bit where I am suddenly paranoid about my breast tissue migrating onto my back...

YOU ARE MOST WELCOME. All my Bra-Fu goes to waste in my head with "what bra size should that actress/model be wearing, and what size is she wrongly stuffed into in this scene?" Both of which I can usually take a pretty good stab at.

I am suddenly paranoid about my breast tissue migrating onto my back

Yeah. I mean, that website is the only place I've heard that, so I'm not entirely sure. I'm not sure that's "it actually, measurably changes your body" so much as "people get used to wearing bras right and get used to the idea of the proper size and make slow progress." It's functionally the same thing, though, and if it is true the good news is that it can be un-did.
