Obviously Dru talk can veer into some unhappy territory. I’ve attempted to keep the conversation as very very vague as possible but I’d much prefer to be upfront.
How can an essay on Dru also give me new insights on Spike?
She isn’t up for the making of anyone, but she doesn’t need, really, to make William the Bloody. They are already there in their little world, singing their little songs. She just brings him into meter and key.
This is absolutely beautiful, and why Spike and Dru are such a fascinating couple to watch together. I love Spike's evolution, but it's thanks to Dru that we are given the raw materials for his transformation.
And here I'm supposed to be talking about Drusilla and not Spike. Silly me, but it shows where my brain goes!
I love that scene from FFL because it's such a gorgeous picture of both of them. It's a pivotal moment for Dru, too, because it's her influencing someone, I think; William and then Spike pulls her into the world in a weird way even once she's taken him out of it.

Dru is such a beautiful character because she's just outside of everything. It isn't up or down or good or bad with her. She's just fundamentally away somehow. I love it.
I was - intrigued? touched? unnerved? - by her final scene on Angel, after she's been set on fire. Darla muses on the change in Angel's personality, but Drusilla...
From the transcript:
Dru: "I'm burning. Make it stop, please." Darla: "Shh. Shh. That wasn't Angel." Dru: "He's gone. He's all gone. Oh - it hurts! It hurts!" Darla: "Wasn't Angelus either." Dru: "Darla, help me. Help me, please! Please. Please."
oh, yes, that scene. Especially since she saw it coming before they went into the garage that night. Pretty fire. And pain. But she couldn't experience it as her own pain even though she was seeing it.

This sums her up beautifully.
