Yeah. As much as I feel like I'm excusing or rationalizing when I try to explain how this all makes sense, I think it's really important to try to make sense of it if we're going to actually do something about it. Like, that is what the whole study of rape culture does, you know? Put the inexcusable and unimaginable into a rational pattern of thought and behavior. And I think it's a mistake to say WELL, THIS IS DIFFERENT BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT RELIGION, which is effectively what we do when we give up on trying to understand the cultural and theological context.

I don't want to concern troll the people I am with on this issue, but it's really hard when someone is using a word or concept that in context just does not mean what it usually means - with the best of intentions, but that doesn't make it effective.
