OKAY HI. So. This is not XMFC. It's not even old retired dudes. It's not even 616. This is Xavier and Magnus from X-Treme X-Men issues 2-3 on the bronze-age-greek-god-steampunk world that our merry band of multiverse hopping mutants land on for their first proper mission arc. For those not reading X-Treme X-Men (aka like, everyone because it was

The contrast with XMFC canon with Erik/Magnus as weapon/his power to destroy is a really nice touch.

On one hand, I wish there was more of a fandom for this comic because this was fun and I think most the XMFC people will skip it over, but on the other, I'm kinda glad I don't have to worry (as much) about Greg Pak seeing me write about Magnus and Xavier getting it on in semi-public.
Also, I think I might have said this to you at some point, but I kinda want to write a fic about each evil Xavier. I don't know if that will happen, but WE'LL SEE.

But this internal look into their lives before the X-Treme teams arrives is a poingant contrast to their ending.

I looove this backstory & manly hovering etc. Poor steampunk Magnus It's the other Xavier, the floating head. LOL comics are so weird and good.

AND YEAH, COMICS ARE WEIRD. I was like, "How do I even write this? How do I differentiate? Can I...can I just say 'head in a jar?'"

I just read J's copies of this arc the other day, it's a fantastic story and I love what you've done with it.

I'm glad you liked it! This was maybe my favorite thing to write so far this month (well, second favorite. I liked daycare Erik freaking over guilt, too), but tragically it will probably be the least read, so I APPRECIATE THIS COMMENT.

ANYWAY, I'm super tired, but yes "opposite of their usual dynamic" was what I was going for, there. Like, I imagine, in Magnus' case, it did come from a place of genuine, fucked up affection. Xavier's usual comic arrogance dialed up to eleven, so sure he was right and so desperate for power and to be revered for being right that he facilitated chaos and genocide, but he's always liked Magnus and he honestly did want to rule WITH Magnus, so certain (horrible, terrible, revolting) steps had to be taken to secure Magnus' loyalty.
Man, dystopia is sad. I'm gonna go back to writing about ghosts and comas and kissing strange boys on rooftops now.
But thank you for reading. I appreciate it always <33333
