14valentines Day One: Body Image

Feb 01, 2010 19:59

I'm doing something a little different with 14valentines this year. I am kind of combining it with a personal challenge that I have wanted to do for a long time. Over the next 14 days, I'll be posting 50 (double) drabbles as part of a collection of, well, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Three or four a day for all fourteen days. While also talking a little bit ( Read more... )

I love the Fantasy of Being Thin soooo much. It had a big, awesome impact on me. It should be required reading for every woman in the world.

And aww, Josh and Donna. I miss them.

I love it too! Someone linked me to it in 2008 when I told the story about my high school therapist who kept telling me I'd be happier if I lost weight, and it sort of knocked me off my feet!

Also, I kept trying to reply to you on Twitter, but it is ten drabbles in four different fandoms and then ten "wildcard" pairings/fandoms. And they're being posted in a weird order, like this. So I'm not sure which works better--four backdated posts with the text of each drabble, linked to from here, or one post, like this, with the full text behind LJ cuts. I kind of like the idea of separate posts, but I feel like that is a lot of extra clicking and people are lazy.

I love the phrase "his suit and their wife." Perfect. I want this to be canon.

Thanks! :D

I tried really hard to give Kate character here. I mean, I didn't have a lot of space to work with and I feel like this ISN'T what the show thinks of her, but since this is 14valentines, I didn't want to write her off completely. I think, if she is really conning Neal to get her hands on something she thinks he has, it has the potential of making her a much more interesting character.

(But, in the long run, the three characters that I really care about are the ones in your icon ♥ Kate can have the music box - Neal gets Peter and Elizabeth, and that's a fair trade, I think XD)

Yeah, I don't hold out any hope that the show will actually give Kate a layered personality, but I like the idea of her having these goals, even if they're morally reprehensible.

But, also, OT33333333

OMG I KNOW OT3! I really want to write a longer story about Neal coping with losing Kate by going to Elizabeth and Peter. Where Peter is all angry and territorial and secretly afraid of losing Neal and Elizabeth is trying to hold the three of them together. But I think it will have to wait until after the season is over so it doesn't get jossed. Also, because I am super busy.

'm fresh out of intelligent/coherent (must run to the market to pick some up), but there were definitely multiple yay!happy!flails of joy during the reading of this, from re-reading the Fantasy to the drabbles. Even though I have no idea what's going on in Changing the Game. Also, Mickey/Jake is win-making.

That's okay ♥ (The coherency, I mean. I am rarely coherent as well.

Oh, Mickey/Jake. If I ever finish "Five Ways Mickey and Martha Join Torchwood" there will be a lot more Mickey/Jake. (Not Mickey/Jack as I keep typoing. NEVER MICKEY/JACK.)

Okay good.

Hee. I ship Mickey/Jake (and not Mickey/Jack, BARROWMAN!!!) pretty darn shippily. (Unless it's 'OMG u totes look liek my dead luvr, I shall luv you forever!' 'OMG I'm over Rose rite nao and have gone gai for u OMG YAY.' That's right out.)

Man I can't believe I hadn't read The Fantasy of Being Thin before, it really should be required reading for everyone. It took me so freaking long to be (mostly) happy with the way I am right now and to not blame everything that goes wrong on my weight. It was particularly hard since I lived with my mother and my sister both of whom are size 0/XS body types and people would always look at me and at them and think obviously something was wrong with me. /rambling

ANYWAY EEE OT3 AND MICKEY/JAKE! <33333
