"I don't know," France said. "I think that England should be able to have all the cake they want."
"You would say that," Germany replied, darkly. He glowered at France over the tips of his steepled fingers. "Don't you understand that the excess of one is bad for all of us?"
France shrugged. He waved at Italy, who shot by on a moped, swerving and barely missing their table. Germany's cappuccino toppled over and started to leak over the edges. "Ciao!" Italy shouted back at them.
France pulled a silk scarf out of his sleeve and started to blot up the mess. "Where were we? Oh yes, cake."
"America is just going to eat it anyway. Why shouldn't I stake my claim on it beforehand? It doesn't make a difference to England either way."
"Do you remember what happened to Russia?" France raised an eyebrow to punctuate his unspoken reprimand.

"For justice!" America trooped by, waving a flag and looking too cheerful for words.
Sweden looked up from his sewing, briefly annoyed, and muttered something voweless. He then went back to hemming Finland's pants.
"To war! Let's triumph over the fearsome foe!" America continued, undaunted by Sweden's glare after being interrupted a second time.
"Wh't'v'r, Sweden muttered.
