The story is, the cast members in the fellowship all went out and got tattoos of the Elven rune for 'Nine'; except John Rhys-Davies opted out, and sent his stunt double instead, and, well...

The story is, the 'nine' symbolizes the number of people in the fellowship. It's actually the number of inches of JRD's cock. You can see why he didn't need the tattoo.
