There's been a lot going on, so I'm probably going to split these updates into two posts.
This post shall be dedicated to epic upcoming events that I'll be going to.
August 28
My friend Alethea had an extra ticket to
The Adventures of Pete and Pete reunion at the Orpheum, so she sold me the ticket. The creators, actors and the band Polaris, who played the opening theme song to the show, will be there. I am most excited. I'm not sure if I'm able to bring my camera, but it promises to be a great event filled to the brim with epic nostalgia.
September 11
My library is hosting a huge, free chicano/a event called
"An Evening of Mass Education" "¡Ban This!" Book Signing. Basically we're going to have as many of the 39 contributors to the book
¡Ban This!: The BSP anthology of Xican@ Literature come in to read selected excerpts and sign the book. I'm jumping on the promotion bandwagon with this one (a little bit). At the request of a twitter friend I created a
facebook event from the library's account so that she and others can invite their friends, and we could get a general count of who's going to be there. So far we have over 20 of the authors, and 20 guests coming. On facebook, 200+ people have been invited. Because of this program's growing popularity, I'm becoming more and more excited.
September 15
The non proft that I sometimes volunteer for, Bridge to Books, is hosting a
middle grade book event at McKinley School. Margaret Peterson Haddix (The Missing series), Lisa McMann (The Unwanteds series), Shannon Messenger (Keeper of the Lost Cities series) and Helen Stringer (The Spellbinder series) will be there discussing and signing their newest books. This is a free ticketed event, tickets must be gotten
here before September 7.
I'll be photographing this event for Bridge to Books.
September 22
I'm not sure if this next event is a Bridge to Books event, or not. One of the members of BTB and the YA Book Council, Alethea, put it together. Ya Rising Stars will be held at the Barnes and Noble in Glendale at the Americana. Allen Zadoff, Ann Stampler (who may be visiting my library during teen read week), Carol Tanzman, Jesse Andrews, Kathy McCullough, Lise M. Stasse, Lissa Price, and Sherry Shahan will be there signing their books. Like the previous event, this is also a free ticketed event. Tickets must be gotten
here before September 16.
I may or may not be photographing this event.
