I agree that cats are tough. Mookie got sick relatively quickly -- which was terrible -- but he really did hang in there for a while after a few vets at the emergency animal hospital declared that he was about to die. In fact, had he been younger and/or had the mass been better located, we would have done surgery. But removing a mass that is basically in the middle of you when you're a tiny cat is major surgery, and at 16 years old, not recommended. The mass caused a condition that resulted in fluid building in his lungs, and it there was no stopping it. :( I miss him a lot. Anyway, it was only when it was obvious that he was miserable that I decided to put him down.
Anyway, If your cousin spent that much money on a dog, I guess he just hates cats.
