What is new with me: we are having a really hard year but with some good stuff I should probably email you Seekritly instead.
Next week I am going to Nobel Conference, which is a two-day thing my alma mater does, where they have Nobel Prize winners and other big-time scientists come to campus and give a series of talks to the public and interested students. Usually it's very focused, but this year the theme is broader, "the future of science," and it's got all kinds of people, including my former professor, Freeman Dyson. So I'm going. I'm going to go see Freeman again, and also some Nobel laureates I have never heard before, neuroscientists and petrologists and things. So I am way too excited about that.
Good for you! This all sounds very sane, and I think you'll be much happier!
I'm doing well. Howl is 19 and living on her own in a house with friends. Wuz is nearly 13, and he's in 7th grade. He's on swim team now, and he got his black belt in TKD last year. Wasband and his new wife are both still assholes. I'm department chair now which is tiring but still ok, though I too am wishing for an exit (a full exit won't happen any time soon, but maybe I won't have to be chair forever).
Let's see, what's new with me since the last time we caught up? It's been so long I don't remember, but OTOH things have been pretty steady for a while.
I'm still at the place that bought my previous employer 3.5 years ago. Still living in the same place. Still in a happy no-longer-distance relationship (woo!). Still going to cons, still missing ConFusion because they keep scheduling it against Arisia (boo hiss) but I made it to both Penguicon and Detcon this year to get my dose of Michigan-fan-hugs. Have had a few pleasant surprises (and a pleasant not-really-surprise) in various aspects of life, which I won't go into here. Maybe in email.
This sounds well deserved, and I hope the days until your exit plan kicks in aren't too many!
I am busy busy busy with Tammy's Tastings and day job and life and stuff. I might be doing some TT work in Toledo, crazily enough, and I'm hoping that might generate an excuse for me to actually see you more often than right now while we live in the same city...
