Every time I try to draft a post about how I feel about this election, I start crying again.  I apologize if this doesn't make any sense.  I think I'm talking around it.

I tried, a little, in the car on the way to school, to explain it to Puppy--who of course has his own feelings about it, but was really interested in an "older" perspective, as he ( Read more... )

Maybe.

I hope that the giddiness everyone is feeling translates into a community energized to change and fix things, rather than a group of people expecting him to fix it all by himself without any participation.

But it is still so awesome that we elected a black man president. And so awesome that we elected a smart man president. Those are two things I was really worried wouldn't happen in the near future.

I get the reverse feeling in Michigan like "Where have all the black people been?."

Most of my black experience, especially lately, has been through "The Wire."

I don't think I understand your comment. "Where have all the black people been" when? Or where? I'm sorry. I must not have had enough coffee this morning.

The experience of growing up in and around Detroit is something I am really, really grateful for. My opinion is that there is no substitute for actually experiencing diversity in a day-to-day manner.

By that I mean when I encounter black people it seems to me that they should have been around me all along but they are not.

Its like running into someone you only knew from television or the movies.
