Human Peace Sign

Mar 14, 2007 12:00

Here's a post that has nothing to do with voting reform: The KW Humanists are organizing a "Human Peace Sign" event for this Friday, March 16. It starts at 7pm in Victoria Park (apparently at the clock tower, which seems odd -- I thought the clock tower was inaccessible).

Apparently, there will be an event in Toronto the next day. See Read more... )

Maybe they're planning to hang from the cladding, or something?... (Not that I've visited it since it became inaccessible).

I'm surprised they're not doing it up near the U campuses, actually.

In other news, I am another few steps closer to closing this blog.

That's a shame. I've moderately enjoyed it.

Thanks.

I haven't made a concrete decision either way yet, but unless I can find some way to post on my terms (i.e. text-based from UNIX) I am unlikely to post many non-spammy updates. Updates via graphical browsers are not cutting it. We'll see whether I can get the Python client working on my account.

I'm guessing, since you're adding "friends", you're now a few steps further away. ;)

The clock tower is still inaccessible, as far as I can see.

I'd meant to say something about your electoral reform proposal, but only after I'd read it more carefully--which ain't happened, so. (What I was mainly going to say was something about the assumptions built into it about what a government is for--particularly the limited-government view you express, which seems at odds with your stated and/or implied preferences during the municipal elections. In your submission, you come across, surprisingly, as something like a right-populist.)

Well, adding friends doesn't imply that I would actually post anything, but you are correct that I took a couple of steps back. I probably would not have deleted my account even if I stopped posting (features like OpenID could be useful), so maybe the phrase "closing the blog" was unnecessarily alarmist.

As it turns out you can get to the clock tower, but not through the front entrance. I went via Park Street, but the David Street entrance is also open and you can get to the clock tower from there.

I think I did give the impression that I am a right-populist, which turned people off my submission. I'm definitely a populist, but I tend to be wary of all large institutions, whether they be government, corporations, or media. (This aggravates many people who know me.)
