For KW people who are interested in fair voting: Wednesday is a big day. It is the public consultation for the Citizens' Assembly. A group of 104 citizens (103 picked somewhat-randomly from ridings, the 104th a facilitator) who have the job of deciding whether Ontario needs a new voting system, and then actually choosing the one to use. Their report is due may 15, but they are going around Ontario collecting public input now.

This process is very similar to the one that happened in BC, right down to the supermajority threshold.

Hmm, neat. I'm happy to see all these provincial movements for voting reform; hopefully they'll lead to a similar federal movement. There were similar public consultations here, I should probably look up their recommendations.

Of course, if the provincial movements fail then the topic is probably dead. Given the lack of enthusiasm for the issue in Ontario I don't have a lot of hope.

If you figure out what is going on in Quebec please let me know. It's so confusing! My understanding is that there was a proposal, but it didn't pass something and now the referendum is deferred. But I have no idea what happens now. Do they pick a new system?

I found you off Jenn Peart's blog (who found me somehow through the blog-universe)... hope all is well!... I see you're in the KW area, but not quite sure what your angle is on all this political stuff? Why so involved?

Jay! It's great to hear from you! I see you are still quite the sports fan, although it looks as if you have shifted from hockey to basketball. When did that happen? I remember you as being a huge Leafs fan ( ... )
