Question re a Law in England and Wales

Mar 25, 2013 18:35

I know I read in someones fic (this it was Iolo's wonderful Torchwood High one) a mention on not being able to talk, promote or something like that homosexuality in schools. When did this start and when did it end. It's for a fic I'm writing. Thanks everyone.

It was introduced in the Local Government Act of 1988 and finally repealed in 2003 - 6 years after the Labour Party returned to power to their shame.

The amendment stated that a local authority "shall not intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality" or "promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship".

Hope that helps and thanks for the comment about TW High.

Thank you for the quick reply, I though you mentioned it in you story, and yes it is a wonderful vic, that I do re read every now and again - When I was in Wales, I actually went and looked at Culverhorse Cross, as you mentioned it. (I'm silly but I was doing stuff for me)

That's OK. You went to Culverhouse Cross? Not the most exciting place. I hope you went to some more interesting places I mentioned. I loved writing that story.

Loved Wales, felt really at home, and the accent, quite nice. Walked around mermaid quay, the millennium centre is amazing, the copper and the coloured slates, very beautiful. The Dr Who experience was great, and I went overboard buying Dr Who T-shirts for my kids. The museum of Welsh life, out to Rhossili Bay, drove through the Brecon Beacons, along the coast past Swansea and up to the Pembrokeshire area - I only had a total of three days, I should have spent more, but it's a long way to go and wanted to see as much of the UK as I could. Only had four weeks and spend 4 days in Paris as well. Though that would be my only chance to travel, but I convinced my ex to sell the rental house, so will have some money hopefully at the end of the years. I'm hoping to come back October or November (hopefully November loved the weather, so different from home, (depending on ex and him looking after the two boys - Tori will be 12, and two weeks just the two of us would be fun, a week in London and then she will pick were we go, she loves ( ... )
