Ok yes I have failed at womenlovefest. Work has been so freakishly busy, and I have a ton to do after work too, that I am pretty much burned to a crisp.

That said, I did watch the last two episodes of Who while working out. (Also the rest of Miracle Day).

possibly spoilery reactions )

Yeah, I really adored "The Girl Who Waited." The opening is a bit slow, and there were some parts that were cheesy (if anyone could do it, it's Amy, etc. etc. etc. stuff). I did think there were some stellar moments though, like the one you brought up with her debating the lipstick, just the Rory robot in general, Rory asking "are they happy", I thought the Macarena thing was both cheesy and horrendously adorable, or the moment when Rory is like "then I don't want to travel with you" but man, the end. I thought it was rather beautiful. I like being reminded that the doctor isn't always this wonderful, nice person. And the whole moment where Rory says he can't do this, and wants to let it in and SHE stops him. I was glad of that, because in a way it both is letting Amy have the choice over her own life, and also I think it was important for Rory to start opening the Tardis. I feel like it would have been such a bad turn for his characterization for him to not. But probably one of my favourite parts is how when old!amy chooses her ( ... )

Yes, pretty much exactly what you said! I think Rory starting to open the door was *supremely* important. If he hadn't I think he'd have come off as inhuman as the Doctor did at that point. The Doctor's alien, Rory isn't.

Honestly I hate baby plots too. And really, Amy (and Rory) spent MOST of the time that she was pregnant with Melody thinking she *wasn't* because of the whole gangers thing. When Amy woke up, she was suddenly not only pregnant but *giving birth*. So it isn't exactly like a normal pregnancy anyway--no 9 months expecting and anticipating and loving the baby to come, just BAM Hello now you've got a baby! Amy probably had some time to get a bit attached (maybe) but Rory? saw her for like five minutes before she melted.
