Making his way toward the room number provided for him, Mello stopped in front of the door. Sighing before he reached his hand up, he wondered to himself how far would he go to make her trust him? The second Kira, he needed her on his side, what was it that L always said?

Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer? Aah yes, that was one of the things he learned at Wammy's, one of the things he was going to practice now.

It bothered him, to be so chummy with the enemy, one of the two people who lead his mentor to the grave, but what other choice did he have? This new situation called for a new way of thinking, a new strategy, and a new one was just what he was doing.

Balling his fist, he rapped his knuckles on the door twice.

There was a brief pause before the door opened a little, the tiny blond peeking before she pulled it the rest of the way. It was a little cautious, but a girl living in a place like this had to be.

"Mello-Mello, you came," she sing-songed, though her voice was more subdued, and in what seemed to be an utterly spontaneous gesture she bounded forward and wrapped her arms around him in a hug. Her face showed signs of crying, faint but certainly there, an idol always took such care in her appearance, after all.

Mello stiffened, his body reacting to being touched, he wasn’t one for physical contact, and most defiantly not by one of the three people he hated most in the world. Taking in a sharp breath, he had to calm down in a split second, his face contorting from pure disgust, in to slight concern, as fake as it was.

“Did you have any doubt? When I say something, I mean it.”

Whether he denied it or not, Mello was clearly shy or, at least, apparently unused to being given a hug. She squeezed once before letting go, stepping back.

"Oh, well, no..." Misa replied a little bit slowly, looking up at her newfound protector with the sort of expression the media might have judged to be a bit vulnerable and quite charming. He looked concerned, a very good thing, because she really was a little bit scared of going out by herself. "I wasn't saying that. I... I was just glad you did."

Having to remind himself that she was indeed, the evil sidekick to Kira, he shook his head and pretended to care.

"You seem shook up, any particular reason?" Lifting an eyebrow, he glanced around the hallway, as if securing the area. "Is someone bothering you?"
