It wasn't like Jan had to eat anything. At least, nothing they served at the cafeteria (not normally, anyway). But it was a damn good place to people watch, and people watch with people at their best! When else could he see them shoveling food into their collective mouths like a bunch of hilariously greedy assholes? It was all great fun.

But there was one person that wasn't doing as much shoveling as she should be to be amusing. Jan frowned from his perch against one of the walls, pushed off, and strode forward. He recognized that flamingly red bunch of hair.

A grin spread itself over his face and Jan announced himself with a noisy clatter of the chair across from Mara. He slapped himself down into an obnoxiously spread out lean, and turned the decidedly sleazy grin onto the captain.

"OUR SAVIOR AND LORD, CAPTAIN RED!" he crowed, and cackled at himself. "Sup, bitch? Having fun and shit?"

Mara's green eyes snapped to the obnoxious man, and she had to fight to not roll her eyes at him. Actually, she fought to not do a lot of things, including moving her hand down to the lightsaber at her belt, before she remembered how she had gotten it.

Kriffing-

Not again. She instead pursed her lips, and just glowered at the man who had decided to intrude on her moment alone.

"Go away," she growled beneath closed teeth, her face contorting slightly in frustration as she looked at him. She did not want to see a man who was just going to make lewd suggestions.

"Nope." Another grin, even wider this time, even more suggestive. "But hey, captain o captain, you can just arrest me or some shit, right?" Jan would really prefer not to be arrested, but sometimes it was worth it. Pestering a chick like this to the point of having him thrown in the space-brig? He'd consider that worth it.

He leaned his chin into his palms, cocking his head and adopting an innocent look. "Bet you're just pissed cuz now you gotta go back to jerkin' it alone though, huh?"

Mara's eyes narrowed, this time her mouth pursing into a tight, very terse line. "I was not jerking it with anyone," she said with a glower, her hand twitching just slightly to clamp down the urge to either pull her lightsaber and slice him to bits, or even worse, actually open herself up to the force on this cesspool of a ship.

"I don't think my private life is any of your business, anyways," she said darkly.

Clark didn't buy it.

She claimed to be fine, and Clark knew Mara was a strong woman, but... her first mate had disappeared -- not just her first mate, but her friend. Husband. How could anyone be alright after that? Especially if they had really been as close as all that (there had to be more to it than Mara was telling, if they really had gotten married), and if he really was gone... for good.

He didn't intend to intrude. But he wanted to at least see her in person, in case she really did at least need a friendly ear right now. He'd finished his article for Lois a while ago and had been taking a breather, having scurried all over finding sources, but he didn't require that much rest to rejuvenate himself.

Using his X-ray vision, he found her in the cafeteria, and hovered awkwardly at the door before he stepped in and decided to approach her table. "Mara?"

Mara looked up from her cup of caf, and almost groaned inwardly. She wouldn't say she wasn't happy to see Clark, because she was, but she also really didn't want anyone to see her like this. She sighed, and gave him the faintest smile, probably the only one she could manage.

"Hi, Clark," she said softly, before finally taking a sip of the drink. The warmth was comforting, at least. It was something she was familiar with, and that was a rarity, since she hadn't seen much she was exactly used to on board. It was all different, and frustrating as hell.

She sighed, and indicated the seat next to her. "If you're going to eat, you're free to sit with me," she offered.

Nodding, Clark quickly found himself something to hold as a reason to be there -- an apple -- and took the seat beside her, setting his food on the table and clasping his hands together. He wasn't sure how to comfort her, never having needed to comfort a woman over the lost of her... whatever he had been, like this. Comfort for Lois came easy, her problems had always been simple. He had been part of her life, and he could always help fix them.

But there was no way to know the right thing to do, the right thing to say. He kept his hands on the table, focused on them as he thought about what he could say.

"How's your coffee?"

Mara shrugged noncommittally. "Its definitely not the best caf I've ever had, but..." she sighed, and shrugged. "Well, its still better than anything I can make, but that's not saying much," she muttered.

She sighed, and looked back down at her cup. She didn't know what to think, or how to handle this. She hadn't been that close to Luke. She hadn't been. Apparently they would have gotten engaged in a few months, but that wasn't going to happen. It wasn't.

She wasn't actually going to say anything about it unless Clark asked. She had a sneaking suspicion that was why he was here, but she wasn't going to mention the subject unless he did.

Because strong, lonely women need to bond. :c ms_hellsing April 6 2009, 17:58:47 UTC
She'd tried to drown herself in reading, in research of the past of the dead planet below and the creation of the ship on which the survivors now lived. Distraction plagued her and Integral found herself unable to retain a single line she'd read. Frustration at that led her to the cafeteria. Perhaps a cup of tea would help her refocus ( ... )

Mara had just been sitting there, after her unfortunate experience talking with Jan, and the somewhat lightening experience of speaking with Clark, she hadn't expected to see anyone else, if she were honest. She suspected that she was radiating off enough conflicted emotions that even a non-force user would be able to notice, but here was a woman, a mug in hand herself.

She wondered for the slightest moment if perhaps it was the drink of choice preferred by those who were mourning. She didn't think she was mourning, herself, but she was sure others would disagree, especially with the way that she had decided to just mope in the cafeteria. Sithspit, she was pathetic.

"I'm faring just fine," she said, forcing her voice to be level and hard. She needed to remind herself that Skywalker was just a man. A man whom she hadn't even believed she would marry, and on top of that, a man whom she had tried to kill.

Well, apparently it was job complete, so to speak.

A single pale brow crept toward Integral's hairline. It was obvious even to her that the Captain was distressed. The mug in Integral's hand was lifted to her lips, the tea warming her as she took the first ginger sip. As expected, it was bland and nearly flavourless.

"On the Earth from which I came, others often say they're fine when they are not," she mused. It wasn't an accusatory statement, simply a statement. It was just bad form to approach someone and then call them a liar. "I'm sorry to say your behaviour of late contradicts your words, Captain. I understand that the matter isn't any of my business; I too am a fiercely private creature." Integral paused, looking across the cafeteria in thought. "If you do want to talk with someone who might be going through a similar loss of... a friend..." It was odd thinking of Alucard as anything more than a servant. It had been that way for so very long and now Integral found herself questioning the very nature of their decade together.

Mara sighed. "That's all he ever was," she said with a small laugh. "Besides, if it bothered me this much," she shrugged, shaking her head with a deep sadness. "Well, then I didn't have the mettle to do what was needed from the get-go," she stated simply, her eyes hardening.

"People do the same where I'm from, but where I come from, denying how one feels is...common place," she said simply. "Jedi deny their feelings every day," she explained. "They're supposed to be 'serene'," she made a sour face. She hated the way the Jedi lived, the way they were 'supposed' to live.
