Summary: It WAS a dark and quiet night, at least until the rats came out...

His name is Rats-Bane.

It was not his official title, for there were many with that name. Instead it was the name given to him by Bear during his first night home with his Mistress and he’d caught three of the rats that had been making themselves at home in the kitchen.

The rodent population had started nose-diving after his arrival.

Things had been well for many moons, at least until the largest rat decided to fight back and he was forced to trigger the Chaos Program.

While initially all was well, after the fight the program refused to shut down, and the Chaos personalities aggression went out of control.

He had only vague memories of what happened next. Bear told him that Chaos had driven itself after the rodents, and that the commotion-as well as the cats running into the bedroom at top speed-had woken them up. Chaos it seemed was not a quiet creature.

But Bear was an old hand, and Mistress was wise in the ways of letting another do what they could not. And together they had gotten him into the Magnet Box.

There was no sense of time in the Box, but he had the vague notion that a great many moons had passed before mistress could get treatment for him.

The size of the rat population was certainly a good indicator of how long he’d been asleep.

But tonight that was all going to change, Mistress had told him how embarrassed Square had been, that the program had had such flaws. So embarrassed in fact that they had offered another Shift Program after they had reformatted the part of his CPU with the Chaos Program and replaced it with a properly working one.

After looking over the specs of the various Shift Programs they offered, he’d chosen the Galian Beast, this time of year the raccoons were everywhere.

Sitting above the refrigerator, he waited and listened, he could just barely hear them, they’d come out soon enough, and when they did...

They would remember why he was called Rats-Bane

Summary: He may have been old, but none could do the job better

He may be old, but he can still teach-Human, Plushie, or Animal.

The Moogles and Cait’s were starters for a reason-but that was all they were meant to be. They stayed until a new owner had learned what they needed to-he and his were not the easiest to care for-until they got at least one more plushie-sometimes two-and all were settled in.

They taught the Plushies as much as the Humans, well, the new ones anyway, the older ones had already been taught.

And sometimes they taught and Animal or two, pets had to learn the ropes as much as the others.

And then they left, returned to Square so they could teach another.

The Moogles and Cait’s were starters for a reason-and that was all they were ment to be. But sometimes, rarely, one would be kept by an owner, considered too beloved to let go. It was a secret dream of all starters, to find an owner that would never outgrow them.

One day he would find his true owner, till then he would teach, as he always had, and always would.
