So, I am sitting there on the couch today, a friend on the loveseat, Matt to my left, and I look towards the kitchen... Oh, the humility. The mess is atrocious. And I just sat there. I thought to myself, people that come into this house must wonder why the hell I am just sitting there and not cleaning it all. I guess it's because they aren't here

Put plastic wrap around all of the dishes before you feed everyone, that way, when you're done, you just have to pull the plastic wrap off and the plate is still clean underneath. It really only works well with foods that don't need a lot of slicing, because if they do, the plastic is cut through, people end up eating bits of plastic, and the plate still gets dirty. However, lots of other foods work well, if you wrap the plate well, and try to do it neatly.
Foods i've done this successfully with:
soups
cereals
some pastas
all foods that are eaten with the hands (chicken fingers, burritos, pizza, etc.)
Give it a try, it could save you some time and kitchen smell.
