gotta second rose_etta, here. Wonderful dark and gloomy atmosphere. And I especially like the twist on chloe=someone else. Most often we get Lois, so Mercy was quite the switch.

I'm intrigued by the following line:
She may have shirked promises in the past, but this was one she intends to keep. The girl once known as Chloe owes him that much.

I'm curious...what promises do you think she's shirked in the past?

I always consciously try to put in a line or two like that one...something ambigous, hinting at things unspoken or much larger than they appear in the story.

Hell, *I* don't even have a nailed-down clue as to what I could mean with these lines, but I like the possibilties that they present. With this particular one I had in mind all those "promises" or whatevers that she has made to Clark (or Pete) in the past, but has ended up skirting around to get her information/story/etc.

Huh. You know, that's a really interesting way to look at it. So often I've just focused on the promises that Clark doesn't keep. That's very interesting...

The Chloe as Mercy thing is one of my little ideas that I toy with from time to time. I actually took a whole fic based around it and turned it into a book plot instead I love it so much.

Nicely done. This is one possible way it could have actually worked very well. Why is there no porn?

I know. I totally remember the last time that you went through the whole big public Chloe/Lex mode, and that followed soon after, irrc.

This was my farewell to SV, so it's kinda a goodbye combined with a bird flipping.
