A walk through an undiscovered neighborhood is one of New York's greatest balms and pleasures, and at that time the number of new-to-me neighborhoods was much higher than it is now. I tend to give people money when I shouldn't. I just can't help it...I know everyone needs something to eat, and has a story. They break my heart.

You know I've noticed the "I'm gay" claim is used quite a bit by people in need of cash fast. There is a crack addict in my neighborhood who uses that line right up front. I think it's an attempt to put me or whoever he is asking for $$ at ease.

He has such good elaborate stories though, I always end up giving him a couple of bucks. I don't think he recognizes me, because every time I see him, he has a new story, new name, etc.
