When you're an actor-rather, when you're a somewhat talented actor who is in the business not of any love of the art but rather a desire to have a shining moment of glory or two in which I felt that I had transcended all the trials I've loosely outlined in this journal-you have a few roles that you are sure you are born to play. I had many: Mary, ( Read more... )

And hell, if you pick up on the acting bit you could actually play her!

Me too!

you have a few roles that you are sure you are born to play

1. Medea
2. Marlene (Top Girls)
3. Martha (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?)
4. Evita.

I think your choices say nicer things about your personality!

Ooh, Martha! I didn't really discover her until after I'd quit acting, but yes, she would be on my list were I still doing it.

I went for tragedy; you went for the jugular!

Cool. I saw Uncommon Women and Others on PBS while flipping channels in the 80s and was like, Wow this is different. Predictably, I liked the consciousness-raising scene in Chronicles.

I love that scene! It's hilarious and poignant. Fran (the furry physicist lesbian) would be another awesome role to play.

I've never read "The Heidi Chronicles" and this is making me want to.
Do you think our daughters willl finally be the ones who feel worthwhile?

I can loan you my copy if you're interested. It's an easy read.

I don't know. I think our daughters will find new ways to not feel worthwhile. If my parents thought they were doing the best thing for me by not acknowledging beauty as a factor in life, and I still wound up all screwy, then I can't imagine whatever smart approach I will take will be the solution.
