Yeah, I loved the accidental shots of the delegates yawning without bothering to cover their mouths ( ... )

Is it me or did analysts of every political persuasion seem really let down after McCain's speech? Like they were waiting for him to inspire and give them a reason to believe in the maverick again, and were disappointed when they didn't get it.

I agree with Soli. I think McCain is sincere in his desire to change things, but I question the ability to do it. My opinion of him was bolstered by his lack of mockery, regardless of how late it was. I rather imagine that he was advised to attack Obama, but have the feeling this goes against his grain, again a plus point for him imho. His military background, which he was pushing, scares me. I think he'll look at things from a too military standpoint. Plus, I was just comparing the McCain/Obama policies and his protection of America seems to be based in foreign parts instead of tightening security at home, like Obama would like. I'm too afraid he's going to keep sticking America's nose in places where it doesn't really belong instead of spending time patching up the holes closer to. The American military presence outside America generates more attention and more unrest than it does good. They're just giving people more reason to attack instead of proving they are protected where they should be ( ... )

I agree but I also know he's the one who planned the direction of the convention. And despite leaving out the divisiveness from his own speech, he couldn't or didn't want to change the hate and fear mongering of the other Republican speeches throughout the week. If he won't or can't change the tenor of his party, I don't trust him to even try to change the direction of the country. I think I feel worse about that than anything else; I believed in him in 2000 and would've voted for him if he'd won the nomination then.

Continuing on sincerity, assuming he *is*, he's already shown that he will bend to the will of the right, so what's to stop him from doing that again?

I think the crowd was chanting (USA!) the loudest during the segment where McCain was comparing himself to Obama.

Last night on the CNN Political Ticker blogs I found a post that said their was a code on the delegate floor to chant USA to drown out any protesters. If that's the case, then they must have had a lot of protesters besides the ones they hauled out of the haul and arrested outside.

No effing shit? Does that make the delegates overly eager or anticipatory of protesters or were there really that many protesters there? Hmm.
