I'd have to agree with you on the rating as well as those WTF moments in wondering what happened to Portsmouth, etc. This Mary Crawford seemed to come straight from the "Dallas"/"Dynasty" mold - don't know why. Those characters are always more interesting when their machinations are wrapped in the gentle subtlety of the expected deportment of the day. When she was delivering her line about being "that shallow," she may as well have hit him over the head with a mallet. For some reason, Mary's overt behavior in this version made Edmond's infatuation with her seem less naive than just plain stupid ( ... )

Heehee. I think it was mollytype who said last year it was nice to see Tracy Lord acting again. :p I think they left her blonde because she's under contract with Dr. Who and she's blonde in that (*doesn't watch Dr. Who so has no real clue*). Still, it was a bit distracting wasn't it?

From what you've said, it does sound like they've butchered a lovely book. Still, a fan of Jane Austen would love to watch it anyway. I didn't even know they were making a new version of Mansfield Park. I wonder if it'll come out in Australia...

It's been such a long time since I read the book, but I enjoyed it so much. Do they have the part in the movie of when they're doing that stage production in the house, even though they know that William and Edmund's father won't approve? And the father comes home and they all get in trouble? And the bit with the necklace chain? Is that in there?

I really should read that book again!

I enjoyed the bit I saw. I thought Edmond was adorable.
I have not read the book, though, so I do not know what was left out or changed. I did have a hard time with the actress. I kept picturing her in Dr. Who being chased by really badly done up CGI. I kept expecting some strange monster to come out of the woodwork. Hehe.

It was funny, I was looking up the actor that played Edmond on Imdb and they had him listed for HP GofF. I looked and showed character as Cedric Diggory! What? Then I realized it was for the video game, Hee.

Anyway, I saw the theatre version many years ago with Francis OConner and really enjoyed it. I will have to read Mansfield Park, though before I can give a proper review of this adaptation.

It'll be the next novel after P&P in the RAL, if you're wondering. :)

Yep, both those scenes are in this version. I'd think these new versions will be making it to AUS soon; we're just getting them now but they aired last year in the UK. IMDB sadly doesn't list release dates for you guys though. :(

Not having read the book all I can compare this to was the other adaptation I saw and I could hardly recognize it as the same story most of the time.

Pretty freaky, huh? If you have time, check out the original BBC adaptation of MP. It's a bit stricter in its adaptation, but I daresay you'll be scratching your head at this interpretation of Fanny as well since it's so different from these recent two.
