Report #004 - Wibble Times to Wednseday, Nov 30th

A [Action: 1248 Williams Road]

[She woke up in her 'own' Mayfield bed after the madness of Bombfield, and -- freaked out a little, okay? There might've been some crying in the shower, but you know what? Roxanne isn't letting anybody see how weirded out and scared she is in this town. Not her ( Read more... )

Well, seeing people just soak up information - however vague or misinterpreted it is - is a plus in Diana's book. Yet, she knows that Mayfield likes to sugarcoat things to make it as if you really want to live here your entire life.

And that is something she certainly does not want to do. So, Diana approaches Roxanne over where the newspapers are and clears her throat in a polite manner to get her attention.

"Excuse me, but I couldn't help but notice what you're doing. Could I be of any assistance, perhaps?"

Who knows, perhaps Roxanne could be a valuable ally to her.

Truthfully, Diana is giggling in her mind. Perhaps she has guessed another thing to be right or it was just because of the look that Roxanne is giving to her. On the outside, though, she wears her poker face proud and nods every so often over Roxanne's tripping of her words.

Finally, perhaps to lessen the tension, she says:

"It's all right. I can understand if it's one of those things that you don't want to talk about."

She's totally lost control of this encounter.

"It's just-- It's hard to explain without a power point and some --" police files, don't say that! "... context."

Essentially. Though, Diana can't help but idly comment to herself that Powerpoint was pretty much obsolete by her time.

"Context? Of what kind? Is it that complicated?"

"Of the contexty kind," Roxanne said, pursing her lips in a moment of irritation. "It's that complicated. And I'm even seeing him to day, because he wants to show off that new bike of his and-- this just made it a little bit weirder."

Thanks for that, Diana. Sigh.

"... Right," Diana replied, giving Roxanne a false nod of reassurance.

But, wait. Bike? Machinery? Oh, now she's totally on it.

"What sort of bike are we talking about?" Perhaps a change of topic might help matters out.

"One that flies. It's not-- conventional. He's quite the inventor back home." She laughs a little. "Got first dibs on a ride, apparently."

...that doesn't at all sounds like they're not 'involved', does it?

No wonder she had such an interest in Megamind...

"And yet, you said you weren't involved."

"Well it's not like-- I mean-- I've been on it before, just-- different... circumstances." There is no way to recover this at all. Roxanne just gives up, sighing.

"...yeah, I'm going to get my papers before I cram my brand new sneakers further into my mouth." She's even blushing now. The very idea. It's so silly! "It was very nice to meet you, Diana."

She gathers up her papers, laughing weakly, and heads for the register. Never going to live this down...

Especially not after their 'date' tonight.

That's probably the better answer to everything, Roxanne. Or else, Diana's just going to get worse in her trolling.

However, when Roxanne hints on leaving, well - to Diana, that doesn't mean that she's done with talking just yet. After all, someone that's this important to Megamind surely has to be interesting themselves, right? So, she's going to follow her to the register now.

"I have a few more questions, if you don't mind. Don't worry - I won't ask anything too embarrassing or relating to your relationship with Mr. Megamind, Miss Ritchi."

Cutting a glance to the side, Roxanne slows a little, watching Diana with an arched brow. She's not quite sure how to gauge the young woman's interetsed-- and maybe she's just getting used to the whole idea of people wanting into HER business...

... and not having Metro Man behind her scaring them off from digging too deeply.

"What did you want to know?"

Well, as long as Roxanne's not equally as prying too her, then she's happy with that. (Some ideals she has, huh?)

"Well, how much do you know of Mayfield so far? Perhaps I can answer a few questions."

"Enough to know that I'd like to go home as soon as possible," she says with a twist to her lips. "And that it's pretty dangerous."

She stops before the register, juggling the items in her arms. "Megamind thought we'd be safe with you. When-- everything happened. But apparently you'd moved elsewhere."

It didn't take Diana long to piece together what happened, or so she thought. And, so, if her skin could get any paler - well, it just did. And she could feel her heart sink in the process.

Just what could she say to that? 'Sorry that I went to my shelter and you died in my basement' or 'Sorry for your first experience?'

So, all she could do is offer Roxanne a look of sympathy and a frown. She could have protected them, but...

"...He thought that because of my lab, didn't he?"

"Probably. He was-- a little bewildered when it wasn't there. But we ...we camped out there anyway."

Roxanne looks at her steadily, watching her put the pieces together. Yup, that was a conversation killer. She's-- not glad that she's gone and punched Diana in the heart, but she's sort of glad that it kills anymore awkward questions.

"It's alright. For a given value of alright," Roxanne says, lips twisting. "It was-- just like a bad dream. But-- we weren't alone. So it wasn't as bad as it could have been."

She gives a strained, apologetic smile, and steps toward the register. Yup, time to beat a hasty retreat.

Just getting upset about it in public wouldn't do anything for Diana. So, she steels her emotions and puts on a straight face for now. Later on, she could mope about it and how she couldn't do anything to protect them.

"I'm glad you weren't alone during it," she finally speaks, her voice sounding a bit lifeless through her conversation. "If there's anything I can do, though, Miss Ritchi..."

She's not done with the conversation just yet, but it does seem like she'll be done with it soon enough.
