I don't like Briggsy's characterization of Vetinari for several reasons (most of which probably stem from the fact that I am insane) but seriously. What. The. Hell. That hat has to be the dumbest thing ever. This is how I envision it was found

When Clarecraft created their first figurine of Lord Vetinari in 1994 and asked for Terry's approval, he said Havelock should be wearing a skullcap. So it sounds to me like PTerry decreed the hat and Stephen Briggs is just following canon.

However, the Studio Theatre Club has been staging Discworld plays since 1991. So it is possible that Terry first saw Briggsy wearing a skullcap in the roll of the Patrician.

Which is more than you wanted to know.

Thank god I'm not the only one who hates that fucking skullcap. Every time I imagine Vetinari/Briggs wearing it I can't get the idea out of my head that it's hiding a bald spot and Vetinari's just too vain to let people know he's losing his hair.
