Okay. So in Government class, we've been covering issues like Iraq, Iran, the Constitution, and health insurance. And so I was wondering if my flist might help me out here and take a little poll? The results are visible only to me, and all comments are screened. I need as many participants as possible, so feel free to tell other people about it.

Socialized and privatized insurance both have their ups and downs. Socialized is better if all you want is to be able to go to the doctor and get a check up every year, get vaccines or common medicines when you need them, and whatever else. Socialized doesn't work so well if you have to get an operation or come down with some kind of disease where you'll have to do hospital stays.

I'm a firm believer in capitalism, and that competition ultimately gives you better service, but it's harder to believe that when, if only healthcare was socialized in America, I would be covered by it and could go to the doctor. I think a mixture of the two systems should be available, not just here, but everywhere. An option for government insurance versus private insurance would really improve the lives of many people.

I miss talking about this sort of stuff in my own senior government class. >.>

Exactly. Socialized usually has a lot of problems with rationing and shortages, but on the other hand, at this point in time, American private companies are making insurance extremely hard to get. I agree that there should be a mixture of the two systems, or at the very least, some kind of regulation of our private companies. It's not cool that so many children, teens, and young adults in their 20s and 30s aren't insured, or are insured, but have to pay a ridiculous sum for it. :\

Yes, exactly. If only people were willing to pay the taxes that would make that possible. -__-

Gov was one of my favorites too. My teacher actually ran for congress so he knew his shit. Even if he lost to the democratic incumbent. >.>

Oh, man. My gov teacher is a young 30-something who's traveled pretty much everywhere. It should be a prerequisite for gov teachers to be that cool and smart. :P
