“Tindómë! I hoped that you would come with Legolas and Gimli. I have waited for so many years to thank you for the gift you gave me, even though there are no words sufficient…”

His son’s gaze followed the elderly hobbit as he covered the distance between them, and Tindómë knew that the Winter Elfling had found his family; a family as unusual as he was himself.

What a lovely ending "sniffles".

I am so glad that you like this wee twist at the end!

That's a very sweet ending, with just enough sadness to make it sing. I wonder where the parents went, and how the choice to go to the Havens was eventually taken, and much else. Which is as it should be at the end of a satisfying fic.

Thank you! I have really enjoyed writing this one - and it is interesting to see how those comments we shared about the picture, back in April, sent us on two different paths - with occasional similarities and definite differences.

Yes - there's an idea about a frozen garden which means time is different, and you show that by having a new character affected by it. Something about imprisonment, and something about a state of death (which is logical for winter). Otherwise, loads of differences. Quite fascinating to share that - plus it made sure I'd read your fic and vice versa, and readers are always a good thing!

sniff! Nope. Not crying. Not really. ... Bawwwwww!

Now the kids think I have really gone nuts. Ah well.

This was just beautiful! It has that mixture of grief and beauty and quiet joy that is very, very elven. Beautiful! Thankyou so much for letting me know about this.

I am more and more impressed with what you have achieved with Tindome. She manages to be still recognizably Dawn - and especially good to see her Keyness coming to the fore here (and Rumil's characteristic acceptance of it) and Dawn's old patterns and reactions to that still being present in Tindome - but so solidly rooted in the Tolkien's world that it seems impossible to imagine her anywhere else. She is a real accomplishment. Be proud!

Now I have to go as the punctuation police have confiscated my exclamation marks.

I'm so glad you had time to come and read it.

I thought it was time to remember The Key - it is the whole reason that Tindómë exists alive in ME rather than, quite possibly, Dawn dying in Sunnydale, if you see what I mean.

I have to admit that I really do like Tindómë, I'm so pleased that she is still clearly Dawn to you as well as adapting to live as almost-an-elf - I enjoy the sense of juggling involved!

I got the sniffles myself a couple of times - I'm not sure how weird that is, getting the sniffles over something you are writing!

Currently I am doing some ficlets which are gap-fillers - the first one is on my journal, but I am gong to post them under one heading over a twisting the Hellmouth ('For Small Returns'...) - I could send you a link when there are a few of them, if you want.
