It lay directly in the path between her lab and her study and for months, every time she passed it, reminded once again, she’d pause in her steps, the old familiar pang of grief gripping her chest. But only for a minute. Then the moment would pass and she’d move back down the hall just as if nothing had happened at all.
Until the day she arrived in her study and realized that nothing actually had happened. She’d walked right past Ashley’s room as though it were any other.
The bleeding hole in her heart had finally begun to heal.
