Handy was dozing over a paperback in a chair near Martha's bed, taking his turn watching over her and failing to stay awake. At the sound of movement and a squeak he blinked awake, startled into motion of his own. He dropped the book as he saw that she was awake, and reached over to take her hand.
"It's okay, Martha," he said. "Well, I dunno if it's okay, but it's - it's workable. You fell and made the cracks in your ribs worse."
"Doctor?" Martha croaked. She squeezed his hand but used her other one to start pushing herself up. That made the pain worse though, and she cried out. She fell back squeezing his hand. "I need water," she managed. Though how she was going to drink water while lying on her back, Martha was unsure.
"Easy - easy!" Handy hopped up from his seat and reached a hand out to make sure she stayed down, slightly belatedly. "No need to get up; stay right there. I've got it covered, alright?"
Satisfied that she wasn't getting up, Handy gave her hand a squeeze before letting go and going to the bathroom for water. He was well-prepared - while it had been one of the others' turns, he'd stolen a cup from the cafe, as well as hunted down a bendy straw behind the counter there. He returned with both, the cup full, and held it for her.
"You've been out for days," he said. "I can give you something for the pain, too, but you'll need something more than water in your stomach."
Martha waited anxiously until he came back. By the time he came back, her fingers were tapping again and she quickly stopped it so he wouldn't see. She looked at the water and looked at him. "Can you at least help me into a sitting position? It's much easier to swallow when upright..."
Then the rest of what he said caught up with her. "Days? Unconscious for days? Are you sure?"
