Mal had been staring at the coil that was completely fixed since his meal with Captain Jack when there was a pounding on his door.
"Gorramit. Do you have to pound...? he started as he crossed the room and opened the door, face to face with his mechanic... He stood there mouth open. He hadn't exactly expected her to actually be there... the whole situation was hard to accept.
"Capt'n!" she squeeled excitedly, launching herself at him for the mother of all hugs. "You ain't got any idea how good it is to see you," she said with a huge grin. "I mean I'm sorry your stuck here now too, but its real good to see you," she reiterated just in case he didn't understand the first time.
He folded his arms around her, holding her in one of his rare captain hugs that only a few special people were privileged to. "I didn't know if the Captain was right, that it really was you. I'm glad to see you... not that you're here... but... it's you." Standard Captain smartness.
"So when did ya get here? Who all have you met so far? Did they explain how things work here? When was it for you before you got nabbed? What was happenin' back home?" she asked in rapid fire, wondering what point in the timeline he was taken from and everything that had happened since then.
"So it fixes things sporadically?" This place made his head hurt. "Though, I guess it doesn't matter if it's not fixed completely... considering we don't have a ship to fix it to..."
"It fixes what it want's fixed," she clarified, making the important distinction. Nothing was random in this place.
"Don't remind me." She missed Serenity as much as she did the rest of the crew and she knew Mal would feel the same way. "I am building a hoverskiff though," she mentioned. "It's taken a spell since I had to machine a lot of the parts myself, but she's almost done."
Kaylee beamed at the praise, she couldn't help it.
"Well, I ain't got nothin' but free time to work on it," she said more modestly. "You'll have to come down and take a look. I've got a shop down in the garage. If you're ever lookin' for me and I'm not in my room, chances are I'll be down there."
