Janeway set down her PADD, amid the sketches of the sky people's symbol, a stale cup of coffee, and melted wax candles. While in study, she had become more casual, leaving behind her uniform jacket and instead was wearing a gray short sleeved turtle neck stolen from an older uniform.
She crossed the sitting room and to her door, opening to find Julian standing in the hall. "Doctor," Janeway smiled and stepped back to permit him in. "Did you find the workshop?" She asked.

"Yes, and the phaser is fixed. Works fine, though I can't explain the huge scorch mark on the wall in the workroom." He smirked and moved on.
"I want to run an idea by you and Garak. I think I should run into Dukat before we give him back his phaser. It seems ... safer, don't you think?"

"It is against my better judgement to give this back." The admiral said with a sigh, setting it on her desk. "I'd sooner recycle it than rearm him...but is the lesser of evils when it comes to the weapons he could use."
Janeway turned back to Bashir and leaned on her desk. "If you think it is a wise idea. I am not sure if he is in a placating mood with Starfleet personal of any sort."

Clearly the hotel/Dominion had chosen to give him a hallucination. For what reason, he had no idea. From what he had heard from others, there was no rhyme nor reason behind the events. But what would the Dominion be doing holding people captive who had never heard of them and were born centuries prior to the Dominion becoming such an overwhelming force of power?
By the time he arrived at the Admiral's door, Julian was leaning heavily on it for support. He knocked and hoped she was in as he was in no mood to take his tricorder out and scan for her.

"I hallucinated. Instead of Dukat coming out of his room, I saw a Jem'Hadar soldier. I fired my phaser, but missed ... at point blank range. I never miss. It became a hand to hand fight when he kicked me and knocked my phaser out of my hand. I still don't ... understand any of it. He cut off my air, I fell unconscious, and he took me to his room. At least he let me live and put my shoulder back in place." He weaved a bit and started to feel nauseous.
"I think I should go to the medical facility."

"When have I not pestered you, Doctor?" he asked innocently. He got the shirt settled in place. "Just put your good arm around me, and we'll get underway. We'll see you later, Admiral." He hoped earnestly that was true. If not, he wasn't sure if he'd ever forgive himself.

"I'll be back to check on you Julian." She said before slipping out.

He wanted to ask Garak where she was going, but what was the use? He knew. He knew that Garak didn't need any more grief from him either. He had already caused enough trouble.
He also knew he should have waited for Garak and not gone to see Dukat on his own. But he ignored that gut feeling that was nagging at him and set off anyway. Not his most brilliant moment.
"I think my enhanced ability to heal very quickly has been taken away. I'm usually not this sore after being treated. I could use another dose of pain meds."

She wanted to ask the whereabouts of the missing one that had belonged to the doctor but thought better of it. Janeway walked slowly, eyes scanning the first room she came into...which looked a bit like her own only in different colors and adorned with things that must be for the Cardassian.
Janeway came within arm's reach of the desk were the computer sat and drew the phaser. She set it down on the tabletop. "I'm leaving it on your desk. I have no other weapons." She peered around the room once more and looked at the bedroom door, slightly ajar.
"Dukat?" She called out gently.

Julian wasn't sure he should interrupt his friend. He looked so absorbed in his thoughts, yet at the same time, distracted by pain.
"Garak, if it's a headache, I have medication up in my room to help. It won't take long to go get it. You can come with me and then we can come right back here."

"Look, by not acknowledging you have a headache, you are only making my headache worse, you see?"
He forced a smile, not enjoying playing this game, but at least making an effort to be funny in his reply. He set his empty mug aside and crossed his arms over his chest.
"It's no wonder you have one anyway. Being trapped here with Dukat must be infuriating for you. Knowing Kathryn is probably facing him on her own isn't helping matters, I'm sure.
But I need to tell you something. I owe you an apology. I never realized what it was like to be in your shoes ... an exile on the station unable to go anywhere ... until now. I feel trapped here, like I'm being smothered very slowly. I just never got it until now. I'm sorry for not being more understanding back on the station."

He hadn't been expecting that. His tea mug froze halfway to his lips, and he glanced up from it swiftly. Several things popped to mind that he could say. He finally settled on the only one of any real importance. "Thank you."
