Sookie had been curled up on her couch for hours with a book and a warm, fuzzy blanket. When it had begun to get dark outside, she'd gone through the rooms and turned on all the lights, illuminating every potentially dark corner; it was hard work fighting against nightmares that could be brought back to life by a magical hotel, but she was going to do her damnedest.

The knock on her door was completely unexpected. She actually had to pause and ponder at the sound for a moment before confirming it wasn't in her imagination. Tugging on the hoodie draped over the arm of the couch, she padded in bare feet across the room to peer into the little peep hole. The locked door didn't stand a chance once she saw who it was on the other side.

"Hello, again!" she said with her brightest smile. It was always nice to see a familiar, friendly face.

(OOC: Sorry it's taken me so long! Things piled up this week.)

Dukat found himself smiling in return. This was a good sign. She didn't seem angry, yet he still felt the need to apologize for not being where he said he would be when he said he would be there. "Hello," he said, inclining his head in greeting. "I owe you an apology about the other afternoon. Our captors decided to play a little game. It distracted me, and I'm sorry." He held the folded papers toward her. "This is for you."

(OOC: No problem! Life happens.)

"Oh, it's no problem, really," she said with a shake of her head, smile still in place. "That sort of thing happens a lot in this place, I wasn't offended or anything." The folded papers earned a curious frown as she took them; there was no real way to see what was written on the pages without undoing the very careful arrangement. "And just what might this be? I'm not used to getting a lot of presents, so this is kind of exciting."

"Well," he said, his smile widening further, "that is my way of failsafing the problem of making arrangements in this place, as much as any of us can." Now that his good hand was free, he took the kanar bottle from its precarious perch and held it in a casual dangle against his outer thigh. "The twenty titles correspond to twenty folk tales in a book in my possession. Pick any one or as many as you like that grab your interest; slide the paper under my door, and you will receive a translation to read at your leisure in the same fashion. When we're done with one book, if you enjoy them, I'll find another for you."

Sookie took the bottle from him, feeling a bit like she was on some romantic date from the setup, even though it didn't at all match the actual situation. She did enjoy spending time with her newest neighbor, that wasn't up for any sort of debate, but she had a feeling the lack of, well, feelings was mutual.

Once he'd gotten the blanket situated, she sat where she was supposed to, tugging her own blanket off her shoulders to lay it across her lap. "We can share this, too," she offered with a smile. "We'll be all set to battle the evil cold."

(OOC: I could have sworn I wrote up this comment before! Perhaps LJ ate it, as it is wont to do. Regardless, sorry for taking so long!)

"I feel well prepared," he said, taking a seat beside her and relieving her of the kanar bottle. He certainly wasn't behaving romantically, just making certain that neither of them would get hypothermia up there on the roof. After getting the blankets spread and tucked, he leaned back against the short wall behind them and looked up.

"I've seen so many unfamiliar skies through the years," he said. "Never one that was static. So this will be a novel experience." It was false cheer; he was good at being convincing when he wished to be. "Perhaps we should look for constellations and name them. No scientists here to gainsay us. We can log them and tuck it in the library for some unsuspecting captive to discover years from now and puzzle over. What do you think?" He glanced at her and twisted off the stopper of the kanar bottle, not yet taking a swallow. The bittersweet fragrance almost immediately made itself known.

OOC: No worries. That has happened to me before, too. LJ has been squirrely lately.

The sky above them made absolutely no sense to Sookie, but then she'd only really ever been able to find the Big Dipper back at home, maybe occasionally Orion's Belt if she was having a good night. She didn't even know how to begin going about choosing certain stars to be part of certain patterns; in theory, it should be like naming shapes in clouds, but there were a lot more stars up there than there ever were lumpy clouds.

She giggled at his suggestion and nodded. "That sounds like a fun evening," she confirmed, then eyed the bottle he'd brought up with them. "That stuff smells potent," she commented, the smell unlike anything she was used to, but not unpleasant.

"I think it could be. We'll just have to decide on a theme for them, something we can both relate to." He was already beginning to see patterns, but he had to reject some of those thoughts as they dealt with concepts which would be completely alien to her.

"It is. We metabolize alcohol differently from you, and we drink a different form of it. You could have a few tastes without harming yourself or becoming too intoxicated. It would have a warming effect. I wouldn't recommend much, though. Would you like to try it?"
