The Doctor arrived back at the door of his TARDIS, key in hand. Just before he unlocked it, he did what had now become a habit, he took a deep breath just before he pushed the door open. Anticipation of the hope that perhaps... he shrugged, nothing had happened yet (perhaps it never would).
Suddenly changing his mind, he put the key in his pocket and turned away, glancing across the garage at Rose's TARDIS, he looked quickly away again, it seemed that he was doomed to lose everything and everyone.
Perhaps he needed some fresh air, he'd been cooped up for too long. Heading towards the lifts he paused, then moved towards a doorway. He could hear a slow, rhythmic... creaking, that he couldn't quite recognise.
A workshop! Not that it was a surprise that the garage had one, but then again he tended to go in and out the other way (not that he was deliberately passing Rose's TARDIS).
"Think so, her room's on the same floor as Rose. She was painting the wall at the time," he shrugged, thinking back to their conversation, it was all a bit vague now, he wasn't even sure exactly how they had ended up on the subject of the graves outside. "I think we were planning to see if they were actual graves or not," he said, but he wasn't even sure of that! That was the trouble with this place, your memory got very hazy, very quickly.
Noticing her troubled reaction when she mentioned lifts, the Doctor did what he always did when anything remotely domestic hove into view, he cleared his throat nervously and grinned.
"Well I don't know about you, but I think I could do with something to eat."
Kaylee quickly latched onto that idea as her stomach growled audibly at the very idea of food. "Yeah, dinner sounds shiny, as my belly just announced," she agreed a little sheepishly, slipping her flip flops on.
"So did you ever find out if the graves were real or not?" she asked curiously as she followed him out of the garage.
"Nope, like I said, only seemed to get as far as the shovel."
Reaching the lift, he pushed the call button and glanced across at Kaylee. "Where do you think we should try and find?" He enquired, not sure if she had any preference as to eaterie, as far as he was concerned, as long as there was food, he was happy.
"Oh, it don't matter much to me," she replied with a shrug. "I ain't picky, so the dinin' hall or the cafe, wherever you'd prefer. I'm just hungry," she mentioned.
Which she had to admit to herself was probably a good thing as she once again pulled up her pants which were sliding down her hips as she walked. She hadn't really noticed until her clothes started getting noticibly baggy that she had lost quite a bit of weight over the past few weeks. She had never been overweight, she had curves that she was proud of, but she had never been stick skinny which she was now dangerously close to becoming.
"I think we could both do with a good meal," he said cheerfully, then stepped out of the lift and glanced around him. "That looks like the banqueting hall," he announced and pushed open a door with rather more confidence than he actually felt- hoping that it wouldn't turn out to be the swimming pool!
"Yep," he grinned back at her and then held open the door for her to go in.
Kaylee returned his grin as she entered the banquet hall and crossed over to a near by table. "So," she began as they waited for a waiter, "you're a time traveler, have you ever spent any time in the early 26th century?" she asked curiously, making conversation.
"Oh, I've been all over the shop, me, any when," he replied vaguely, truth was he'd been travelling for so long, through so many lives, that he didn't always remember specifics, well that and the TARDIS readings telling he was in one time and place and it usually turning out to be somewhere else entirely, didn't help!
"Steak and chips," he announced, rubbing his hands together in anticipation and glancing around to see if any plates were about to arrive.
