The Adventure of the Missing Album

Jan 30, 2010 23:54

Who: Holmes, Watson, and Handy
When: Afternoon
Where: The lounge
What: Watson has convinced Holmes to take up this extraordinarily gripping case of the missing photo album, and they go down to meet Handy and discuss the details.

The notion of a theft in this otherwise crimeless hotel (at least so far as the residents go) is mildly intriguing. )

character: the doctor/handy, place: lounge, post: closed

Watson gave Holmes a slightly reproachful look. He was perfectly aware his motives were transparent, and he was equally perfectly aware that this case, such as it was, had every opportunity to be as dull as ditchwater, but he was not so vain a man as to believe that he alone could keep Holmes distracted and sane in this place interminably.

"I don't know what I'm thinking of," he shot back, "dawdling at a time like this. I'm ashamed, really."

"As well you should be. I thought you should have learned enough from your experiences with me by now."

He pulls open the door and gestures for Watson to go first, but not without a little flash of attitude.

Watson entered the lounge with an exasperated roll of his eyes as he passed. "I'll try not to be so disappointing, then," he answered, shaking his head. "I'm sure you'll let me know if I need further correction."

Handy looked over from where he'd been pacing a bit by the windows, waiting for Watson and Holmes to arrive. He'd left the issue of the missing photo album alone for ages without thinking about it too much, but now that he'd brought it up with Jack and realized just how weird it was, as well as gotten the information he'd been missing from Rose, he'd been thinking about it quite a bit. And, too, he wanted to prove Jack wrong for saying he was setting himself up for failure by promising to look for it.

"Ah," he said, breaking into a grin at the sight of the two of them arriving. "There you are."

Handy sighed and sat back, not making eye contact. He'd blown that one, hadn't he? This was exactly why he'd wanted to stay away from the topic of Jareth--as sure as he was that he was right in his assessment of the Goblin King's character, Handy did realize that their history of mutual antagonism wasn't likely to allow him to make any clear-headed response to anything that involved Jareth. "Right," he said. "Sorry."

He ran a hand over his face, casting his mind back and trying to recall when he'd first heard about the two of them being together. "He mentioned her the first time we met," he remembered, brow furrowing. "She must have said something about me, because he already knew about us traveling together." He frowned, attempting to piece the rest of it together. "That was a few months ago. I didn't think it really meant anything at the time, but then a week or two later we talked again and it sounded like they'd been spending a lot of time together."

He nods, filing the information away. "And can you think of anyone else who might have been spending time in Rose's room?" The answer would provide him with more people to potentially talk to about the topic, as well as providing him with potential suspects, though there is still the possibility that the hotel is playing games with them all.

Watson shifted in his seat a little, falling back into silent listening, without any comment to make.

"We hadn't been talking," repeated Handy sheepishly. "Even before she met Jareth. Jack might know if there was anyone else, though."
