Question, Barge - specifically to the warden's who've had someone graduate: Do you actually know what they do after they leave? Because I'm starting to wonder what's stopping some inmates relapsing as soon as their warden isn't watching over their shoulder.

Mine graduated and returned here.

...I more meant those who weren't here.

But, having said that... if you thought he was going back to doing something used to do to be an inmate; what would you do?

I know what you meant. But it's relevant in that he did go home for a while before returning.

However, if I so much as suspected that, I would not let him go back. I would not have graduated him if I wasn't absolutely sure that he was ready to graduate.

So you... were entirely confident he wouldn't go back to how he was before?

Alright then, another question. If, whilst he was here, you thought he was either selling or using drugs or... being unnecessarily violent, what would, or could, you do about it?

It is just a curiosity, not an accusation.

Though I have not had anyone graduate, as someone who has graduated I can assure you that we likely would not be able to do so if we were merely behaving due to being watched.

What I'm curious about is how a warden can be confident that you won't revert when you must have done so many wrong things in your life. Even after all the time here, how does anyone ever have that kind of faith in... criminals?

I was no mere criminal.

We all are, in one way or another.

Lord Vetinari, preferably. Any Patrician after Winder is acceptable, but it's addressed to Vetinari.

Private - he might relent on that later. pleasesmirk August 9 2010, 16:09:55 UTC
No, Doctor, you cannot read it. I just want it delivered and if you're going to read it, I'll ask someone else or the Admiral myself. It's a private letter to the Patrician and nobody else.

...Is there no way of knowing this kind of thing?

Because I'm curious how you're all so confident that everything's just alright and fixed after someone graduates.

It's been fairly quiet actually. There hasn't been much going on outside the normal beginning of the the month comings.

Are you all right, Swing, it's not like you to be out of contact for so long.

Normally at least one of those tries to kill someone. I suppose I can go back and get their names.

I'm fine.

Can... you ask the Admiral a favour for me? I want to know if I can get something delivered to Ankh-Morpork and the Doctor won't respect the privacy of my post.

Not that has come into the infirmary.

I'm very sorry, Swing, I'm not going to do something that the Doctor doesn't think is a good idea. He has your best interests at heart and I'm not going to undercut them.

Well, that might be a first.

The Doctor wants to read my post. I don't think he has any objection to trying to get it delivered, he just wants to read it. I don't even know why.

Just... get it posted for me, please. I'll... I'll trade anything to get it posted, Martha, anything, but he can't read it.
