That's really interesting. I've seen the f.lux idea before, but I'm worried about having Yet Another background program running in my computer. Have you noticed any problems?
I haven't noticed any problems, although when I first turn on my computer the screen flickers a bit, which I don't remember it doing before. They have an FAQ page where a few folks brought up issues they'd had with the program and a few solutions.
Worms has a boudoir! :DDD I've set up my computer screen to do that same thing. Diff program, same idea, although in my case it's because of eye strain. Which the warm/dim screen has helped! ::checks out glasses:: Ooo! Also there's a red pair...great for Decepticon/Defensor cosplay! \o/
A boudoir that turns into a BAT CAVE when I turn off the lights :D
I kind of like the warm screen better than the blue one - except I have to wait for sunset for it to kick in. I can change my latitude in the f.lux program if I want to adjust the time it turns on, but there's no manual "on" control apparently, although you can turn it off for an hour for color-sensitive work, graphics and such.
Defensor visor, EEEEEEEE!!! *would totally stomp around the house pretending to be Defensor*
I've been running flux on my computer for about a year now and foundries me it really helped. Suddenly I'm actually starting to feel sleepy in the evenings even when I'm on my computer! I also turn the laptop screen down to minimum brightness settings when it's being used for nightly reading. With the results that, most nights, I'm no longer still feeling wide awake at midnight. Shall have to try covering up some of the other light sources in the room.
It's pretty amazing - it turns on and within about a half hour I'm yawning and wondering if it's too early to go to bed yet ^^ I found some actual black out fabric that was pretty cheap at the fabric store - the vinyl lets in some dim light at sunrise which I think is waking me up before the alarm, so I might try replacing the vinyl with black out fabric and see if I can sleep later.

Did you happen to be watching Hetalia before you went to bed?
