Smell-o-vision

I discovered last night I dream in smell!  I already knew I dream in vivid color, sound, and touch, but last night I was dreaming about my rose bushes, which have been undergoing Project Rose Bush Relocation to a sunnier part of the yard.  I mostly like to grow natives and butterfly/wildlife-friendly plants, but I've got a bit of a weakness for the ( Read more... )

What's really strange is I can't conciously summon a smell-memory - I remember that there was a faint rose smell in my dream, and I can describe it in relation to other scents and remember the way it make me feel, but I can't imaginary!smell it quite the same way I can imagine pictures or sounds, or the same way I was convinced I was smelling it when I was asleep (if that makes any sense, lol).

It does look like a little goldfish! One of those fat double-tailed fancy ones :D

Awesome!

I love roses, so I found ones that work here in Colorado - wild roses and a William Baffin - and the smell is amazing. It's so cool that you got the 'scent' in your dream!

I justify them by saying that they provide leaves for the leaf-cutter bees and thus are helping in some way.

And hurray for happy pond plants!

Here in Indy we used to be plant hardiness zone 5, but we're up to zone 6 now on a lot of maps now with global warming, (gardeners had the climate change thing figured out a long time ago) so I've thought of maybe trying out a couple of new varieties.

Oooh, William Baffin looks lovely, though I found two completely different descriptions of it - one says lots of disease problems and little scent, and another says it's the healthiest rose ever planted and the scent is incredible. Sounds like you've got the second one ^^

Leaf-cutter bees! :D

I was afraid it would be too shady for the pond plants to bloom, but apparently not ^_^

ZOMG, my Wm Baffin is raspberry colored and incredibly scented - it's the explorer series of roses developed in Canada for harsh winter climates, and it does amazing. The scent will make you giddy!

I think the difference is if there is winter, the rose does well. If it's a place with no real freezing, the rose never goes dormant, because it did not do well for my sister when she lived in Alabama. *shrugs*

Love my bees! I have three different types in my yard and I do my best to provide for them.

Your yard is wonderful, and I am enjoying your adventures in it vicariously.

*peruses website* Hmm, they have some nifty varieties I haven't seen before! Project for next year, maybe, lol ^^ I got several of my roses from heirloom roses and I've been quite happy with them.

Yeah, most of these temperate zone plants need that winter break.

I love. Your pond. It's gorgeous.

And...I honestly can't remember if I smell in dreams or not. Huh. That's really, really cool though, what your subconscious relates to different things 8D

AND WATER LILY YAY.

Thankee! It's a most lovely puddle, now that the plants are starting to fill in all the cracks. I was sitting out there yesterday and in the space of a few minutes I saw two hummingbirds, a good dozen butterflies, a tadpole and a little frog! :D Best splurge I ever splurged ^^

I'm surprised there's not more smell in dreams, but it seems to be a tricky sense to summon at will, at least for me - I can imagine colors and sounds, but not smells. I wonder if folks that are blind and/or deaf are more likey to dream smells...

Water lily!!! It's so pretty *pokes it*
