Bloodroot! Such nifty leaves! Eeeee! So do the seeds have elaiosomes? 8DDD (I just discovered that word the other day and am highly tempted to use it as a Waterbaby name... ;D) (::rechecks wikipedia page:: Oh! They do! Eeeee! <3) Little purple cabbagelets! <333 Hepatica! Columbine! Oh what a good idea for seed starting! I've never done well with seeds, except once with Morning Glories...and those reseeded, so result! \o/ <33333333333333333333333333333333333333
Boodroot leaves are so fun! The flowers only last a few days, but the leaves grow and get bigger and last through mid-summer. More naturalist points to you, lol - elaiosomes indeed! Hee, that would make a great Waterbaby name! :D
I've gotten pretty good at starting most of the prairie/butterfly garden seeds, but these woodland wildflowers are a challenge - will be interesting to see what else comes up. I planted some trout lily, spring beauty, cutleaf toothwort, virginia bluebell seeds, false rue anemone, some more Jack-in-the-pulpits and green dragons, and then for a REAL challenge, some lady slipper orchids that I got from a fellow on Etsy (they need a commensual fungus to grow, so he sent a little packet of soil from the big ones in his garden, and the seeds are even tinier and more dust-like than the shooting star, and it can take them up to three years to even sprout...)
